  1. This is absolute garbage. Fuck Buck, he’s managing scared and is actively holding the young players back. Alvarez is the future of the franchise but he’s going to come up for part time duty. A fucking 21 year old top prospect losing developmental time to ride the pine. I’m absolutely disgusted by the incompetence of the organization. Fuck Buck and Fuck Eppler too.

  2. Give it time. By the end of this season, Nido, Vogelbach and Escobar will be on the bench, if they are still on the team at all. Alvarez will be either be the everyday catcher or everyday DH.

  3. Isn’t Michael Perez hanging around somewhere to ride the bench? He needs to be playing, wherever he is. Again, with what we’re hanging on to at the position at the expense of a young guy…hard to figure.

  4. Are these comments even real? Shocked that so many people are cool with this move.

  5. For everybody getting all bent out of shape it’s pretty simple- the only catchers on the 40 man roster currently are Narvaez, Nido and Alvarez. In order to bring up anyone else (IE Michael Perez) they would need to make a corresponding move.

Basically, Alvarez will get his opportunities and if he doesn’t make the absolute most of them in whatever minute timeframe the team is going to allow then the team will make that corresponding move and Alvarez will be back in Syracuse playing everyday.

  6. Everyone shitting on you. But then why bring him up ? Do he develops zero

  7. Tomas Nido: career negative WAR player

Francisco Alvarez: Number 1 Mets prospect

This shouldn’t even be a conversation. Let the kid play and grow. We quite literally can’t do worse.

  8. Idk, I’m just waiting for Alavarez to come up short in a few big spots. I wonder how long until the fan base turns on the kid

  9. Classic Mets. Let’s stick Pham at backup catcher and Alvarez can be the bat boy

  10. A big part of this is going to be him building relationships with pitchers that demand he catch them. That might be much easier with a Spanish speaking pitcher (Quintana…) NidoKing got his early reps because Noah wouldn’t let anyone else catch him.

  11. Maybe it’ll be good for him to practice with the big league squad. I said it last year when they called him up for the Braves series, on the surface it’ was an incredibly stupid move, so maybe they know something about him the rest of us don’t. Maybe he should be up with the squad to learn the pitchers and get adjusted to the clubhouse, who knows? Plenty of guys start as back ups and become all stars
