Darin Ruf is re-signing with the Giants on a minor league deal, per @jaysonst. So San Francisco essentially got J.D. Davis, Thomas Szapucki, two prospects and Darin Ruf… for Darin Ruf.

  1. This is kinda funny, ngl. Also, how has Szapucki been doing? I know JD is doing okay, but haven’t heard anything about the rest of the guys we traded.

  2. Might be one of the worst trades in Mets history at this point. I really hope that Eppler doesn’t pull this bullshit again at the deadline getting essentially bench players for a playoff push.

Edit: for all those downvoting me, yes we of course have made trades where we gave away far better players. My point by saying that this was one of the worse trades was that at the time we were leading the division and traded for a guy who made our team worse in the process (he literally had a -1.0 WAR for us!)

  3. I’m trying to think of the last time the Mets unequivocally won a trade. I’d argue the Lindor trade ended up being even/slightly better for Cleveland

  4. I’m tired of hearing about Ruf. We traded spare parts for this guy and this sub won’t shut up about it

  5. As a proud member of the Ruf crew, I just hope he does well. One final Ruf Ruuuf for my boy.

  6. Hey listen, if somebody says this trade was terrible, just agree with them

  7. Forget about the 2 prospects… It was JD Davis and Szapucki that concerns me. Trade one of them but both?!

  8. I guess if you divide what we gave up by what we got, this is an alltime bad trade. If you subtract, shrug.

What’s worse? Giving up $5 for a penny or giving up $100 for $5?

  9. Good luck to him.

It stinks when a player doesn’t work out, but just move on and forget about him.

  10. I’ve grown used to this. Just Mets things. He’ll be back up soon and make the All-Star team.

  11. I’m still kinda shocked that Darin Ruf was the best Eppler could do for JD Davis.
