[Hoch] Deivi Garcia is being used in 2+ inning stints at Triple-A. That’s how the Yankees envision potentially using him at the MLB level, similar to Michael King.

  1. Salvaging what they can after whatever they did to his mechanics. Still only 23.

  2. Please stop trying to make this guy happen, he’s been in the minors like 7 years and has a 6.80 ERA the last two years

  3. They did this with Dellin when he started to have problems as a starter in the minors. It worked out well for him.

Can’t hurt to try him as a reliever if he can’t cut it as a starter.

  4. Once upon a time the Yankees had a rookie pitcher who started 10 games.

    During those 10 games his stats were the following: 50 IP, 33 ER, 64 H, 20 BB, 38 K.

    That’s a 5.94 ERA, a 1.68 WHIP, and a 6.84 K/9 ratio.

They then converted him into a reliever where he became the only unanimous player in the HOF.

  5. Thats fine. Not everyone can be a starter, now he can focus on his good shit and use it over an inning or 2

  6. I am absolutely for the yankees trying to turn as many minor league pitchers into quality relievers as possible. Its the one player development thing theyve consistently done well over the last 5-6 years is produce quality bullpen arms from their farm system and/or scrap heap reclamation guys.

sure, it would be nice to have more homegrown reliable starters (or to trade for a starter who doesnt immediately break once we get them for once), but the reality is most of these minor league pitchers are at best fringe big league starters with tons of question marks, (not to mention that unlike relievers, the yankees seem to really bungle the development of young starter talent). But converting their talents to more multi-inning bullpen relief arms gives us tremendous depth at a very important aspect of any team that is typically a revolving door due to frequent injuries and volatility.

Remember how screwed we were by the glut of bullpen injuries that happened like right before the playoffs last year? I want as many arms for depth there as possible.
