[Ferreira] And this is kind of shocking: Robinson reports the parties had the parameters of a deal in place. But after Rodgers said the “90% retired” thing, Woody Johnson got scared to spend high draft capital on him. That would explain why the #Packers don’t want to take less.

  1. This was the most interesting post in a thread off comments Charles Robinson made on Wilde & Tausch this morning.

  2. Lol, Rodgers announcement on McAfee strikes again! It’s almost like words matter…

  3. Sure sounds to me like the Jets agreed to the framework of a deal in order to get permission to talk to Rodgers at which point they colluded to drive down the price, had Rodgers come out and say he was 90% going to retire, and then tried to change the deal.

  4. So Rodgers tanked his own trade value by very characteristically opening his mouth and saying more than he should.

Figures… dude can’t win for losing.

  5. He’s scared the Jets will be relevant again and he’ll have no excuse not to pay top dollars for players.

Like if you really think you can make a Super Bowl with Rodgers, then the price that is being reported is irrelevant.

  6. What if this is all just a ploy to fuck with the Packers by Rodgers and he comes back and plays. Highly unlikely, yes but ugh.

  7. I call bs. He’s saying the Jets had an understanding Rodgers would play for two years but he’s clearly at the point where it’s year to year and has made it pretty clear.

If the GM had to wait for the Mcafee interview to figure that out he’s clueless.

  8. I don’t think any of this makes sense based on the timeline. So the Jets may have agreed to something before meeting with Aaron in California. They had have known he was 90% retiring then right? Why all of sudden after McAfee the Jets are worried?

  9. Could be me, but I don’t consider one 1st round draft pick certainly as high draft capital.

  10. It’s because he doesn’t *want* to play for the Jets beyond this year. He doesn’t want to be hamstrung to any team I don’t think, but especially not them.

He has what, 2 or 3 seasons left in the NFL most likely? he wants 2 or 3 1 year situations where he can try and come in and pull a Brady with Tampa. If the Jets suck, he isn’t going to want to play for them beyond next year.

  11. If Rodgers is able to do what the Jets think he can do for the team next year, why are they scared to give up the 32nd pick? Even if he falls a little short, we aren’t talking about a top 15 pick here.

  12. Rodgers ego is too big to not play more than one year, unless they win the Super Bowl or he suffers a huge injury (which I hope not).

  13. So after all the Jets media people claimed the Packers weren’t negotiating in good faith, it’s actually the Jets who changed the parameters of the deal.

    Typical New York.

  14. Aaron Rodgers is playing 3 more years. His only life is football.

Not married, doesn’t talk to family. Football is his life.

  15. Screw the Jets. Talk to SF, NE or someone else desperate for a QB. Work out the best deal even if it happens after June 1.

  16. I still through all of this just don’t, and fail to understand how it’s the Packers responsibility as an organization to make sure that the Jets do well with Rodgers.

I don’t recall ever seeing a trade before in the works that had the team trying to get the player saying “yeah but if he leaves/retires/sucks at the end of the season…we don’t wanna lose anything..”

Like, there’s been a bunch of trades where if the player performed well the team that traded him gets more, but I’ve not ever seen a team trying to make the trade hold off like this before that I can recall

  17. Aaron Rodgers just might be the funniest man to play the sport because he’s the most real. I get it. Tom Brady has the lock on being the best player from your generation, you got a ring, no reason to go extra hard in the off-season, just do what’s fun and enjoy being so rich off of 5 months of work you can cruise on it for the next three decades. Drugs? Yeah. General diva activities? Hell yeah.

I respect the man for living his best life.

  18. Are we really comparing Russell Wilson to A-Rod? If Rodgers had the defensive help that Wilson had in Seattle then he would’ve won the Superbowl at least 3 if not 4 times. Possibly in a row. Yes this is a wildly speculative comment but Wilson still has not received an MVP vote…..Rodgers got votes while he had the vid….
