3 Utah Jazz players who definitely shouldn’t be back next year

Gay, Fonteccio and Sexton. Do you agree?

  1. Sexton still has plenty of upside and his contract isn’t egregiously large, I don’t agree with that one

  2. They make a decent point about Sexton being injured all the time, but certainly it’s not a “he has to go” case. Could be part of a big trade though.

Simone could be a guy who comes to drop big threes off the bench, but he really needs to work on his game and find his groove immediately when the season starts. Definitely doubtful about his future.

Rudy Gay… Sheesh. If father time is coming for LeBron, he’s definitely come for Rudy.

  3. If you’re going to include Gay, the you have to go for the easy ones like Dok and someone like Bolmaro.

If you’re going to put Sexton, then be *edgy* and choose Clarkson and idk THT or something.

This trio just makes a meh article IMO.

Just in case, I’m only commenting on the article itself, not expressing who I believe should go (though the first 3 I mentioned yeah).

  4. Personally, I disagree with pretty much all of it.

    1. Gay – Yeah sure in an ideal world we would get rid of Gay, but he’s on a player option that financially he should pick up (obviously he could decline in order to prioritize a championship). He’s going to provide zero on court value, but with him being on an expiring $6.5M contract he’ll be a valuable piece to match salary in trades. We will have a lot of young guys on cheap contracts this year, so we have to have salary fillers if we want any trade flexibility. I think the way to think about Gay is he’s a trade asset and if he’s still on the team after the deadline he’s probably a buy-out candidate and both parties can happily end the relationship

    2. Fontechio – is basically on a minimum contract for one more year. He had a rough first year but also showed some signs of promise. On minimum money you’re pretty much always taking a gamble, so I see no reason to not give him one more chance.

    3. Sexton – like the article said his contract isn’t bad. I think he would have played more games this year if we weren’t in a quasi-tank mode. When he played, he was hot and cold. Definitely still recovering from the injury. Overall though, the article argues for trading him for young players or draft capital. I think we over-value draft capital. We have more draft picks than we could possibly need to picks/trades. I’d much rather take the former All-star who has natural scoring ability and is on a reasonable contract to be our 6th man, than take my chances on picking the right player to draft. Best case we get a mid to late first for him, so statistically we get a 50% chance at a role player? His age and contract fits the timeline perfectly. No reason to trade him.

  5. I dream for a world where I don’t have to watch Gay, Simone & THT’s terrible shot selection.

Also Dok needs to go, nice guy, but dude will never learn how to guard a pnr.

  6. Tech and sexton are really bad takes. Gotta give simone a summer here to work and see what his second year looks like, and sexton was an injury year. Rudy gay should be gone but no one is going to take him without us giving assets and we won’t do that so he’ll stay almost certainly
