  1. I maintain that his injury in 86 against the Colts changed the course of his career. He was a star in ‘85 and first half of 86. He got hurt in the game, tried to play through it abysmally the rest of the season and was never the same QB after. In some ways he and Pennington have a similar path.

  2. My father has watched every snap live since 1966 and believes overall O’Brien is the most talented QB the Jets have ever had.

  3. Been watching since the late 70s. O’Brien is the best QB they have ever had. Namath is legendary for the guarantee, but if they lose he is a footnote.

  4. Broadway Joe

    Ken

    Vinny

    Chad

I guess automatically Sanchez because of the AFC Title runs…but you could debate all day whether that automatically makes him Top 5 (which is lowkey sad) or whether his personal play drops him lower. Pretty much outside the Top 4 is a free for all. Favre, FitzMagic….you name it, there is plenty of mediocrity to be debated lol

  5. Anyone who thinks that he’s anything other than second best doesn’t understand pro football

  6. O’Brien goes at #3 behind Broadway Joe and Chad.

Pennington had 3 seasons where he was outstanding for us – O’Brien did not.

  7. It’s not a great list. He might be #1. I know the stats don’t hold up for today’s NFL but for the time he was good. Brett Favre is the best QB that ever played for NYJ but he didn’t play his best football as a NYJ

  8. i like Kenny he would go off on the Dolphins…..which i loved…..but that O line besides Jim Sweeney was swiss cheese on pumpernickel

  9. He’s top five. Maybe right behind Joe? Wasn’t the same after the injury but still, our man under center for a few years there, some stability at the position .

  10. If you can protect him then Kenny O can hang with anybody. However, he wasn’t at that elite level where he can elevate the offense by himself. Only twice have I ever seen a Jets QB elevate an offense with elite play. Favre (pre-injury) & Vinny for the AFCCG season.

When you consider his whole career I’d put him as second best Jets QB. No doubt in my mind Rex wins two SB with those AFCCG teams if Kenny O was at QB.

On the bad side, I remember multiple times he led his receivers into big hits, especially Toon. Multiple times he was ready to fall down and take the sack instead of throwing it away.

He lacked that elite HOF processing speed but I feel that Kenny O belonged in that top 10 QB tier when he was in his A-Game.
