  1. I just didn’t love him. I hope I’m wrong. Feel like him over Hyatt, Tillman, and Mims is a mistake.

  2. I’m a TCU fan so I may be biased from seeing him against us but I think Rice is an amazing WR. Excited to see what he can do with Mahomes.

  3. Dane Brugler’s summary:

STRENGTHS: Outstanding body control, hand-eye coordination and arm length to consistently win at the catch point … explosive leaping skills and play strength as a
high-pointer … has enough speed to stack and threaten downfield patterns … loves selling the vertical track and working slant routes to get underneath corners …
does a great job mixing his speeds and snapping his routes … works back to the football and sits down in open zones … evades and doesn’t allow the jam to slow his
route … tracks the ball well over his shoulder … catches the ball with YAC in mind … blocks with the same aggressiveness that he attacks the football … voted a senior
captain … highly productive senior year and finished one of only three FBS receivers to reach 1,300 receiving yards in 2022 … finished his college career top five in
school history in TD catches (25), receiving yards (3,111) and receptions (233)

WEAKNESSES: Doesn’t have elite top-end speed before or after the catch … routes are quick but lack suddenness in and out of breaks … needs to keep his routes
sharpened and is guilty of shorting his patterns when searching for separation … prone to focus drops … contact balance looks great on one play and lackluster the
next … responsible for three fumbles in 2022 … NFL scouts say that the interview process will be paramount to his final draft grade (NFL scout: “He grew up quite a bit
the last year but needs to stay on that path.”) … doesn’t offer any return value on special teams … played through a turf toe during the 2022 season.

SUMMARY: A three-year starter at SMU, Rice moved from the slot to the perimeter as a senior in head coach Rhett Lashlee’s power-spread offense. At a program
that has produced a long list of quality receivers, he had the most prolific season school history in 2022, breaking Emmanuel Sanders’ receiving yards record and
ranking No. 1 in the FBS with 112.9 receiving yards per game. With his ability to frame his catches, Rice times his leaps and wins jumps balls, leading the FBS with 18
catches of 20-plus air yards downfield in 2022. Though he makes tough catches look easy, he is also guilty of dropping some easy ones and will freelance at will.
Overall, Rice must prove he has NFL-level consistency (in all areas) to compensate for his average speed, but he is a ball winner with natural instincts after the
catch. He can be a quality contributor early in his NFL career.

GRADE: 3rd Round (No. 82 overall)

  4. I believe in Veach and trust Mahomes since he is vouching for him. Let’s all wait and see.

  5. Big reach, but I guess he’s an unbelievable zone beater so I have some hope he might slot into the lineup pretty fast.

  6. Could probably have waited several rounds for him

Edit: sorry Reddit I mean: Uwwwuwuuuuwu what great pick 🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆

  7. Shane Buechele used to be his QB for what that’s worth, I’m sure they’re well informed. I’m cautiously optimistic, though receiver is one area that Veach hasn’t much success with in the draft.

One game is not the be all end all, but I’ll let you all do your own evaluations of him. He did break his toe at some point during the season though, can’t imagine that playing receiver is very easy with a broken toe

  9. I can’t with Reddit anymore. Yall acting like you know more than
2x super bowl champ veatch and co. Smh

  10. Can’t believe the amount of buzzkills in here. Like why hate on a pick and kid who hasn’t played a snap? He was one of the most productive WRs in all of FBS last year. We needed a bigger WR to win jump balls. Watch him ball. Some of y’all attitudes is wack. We just won a bowl and are reloading. Chill.

  11. I don’t really know much about Rice, but then again I didn’t know Pacheco, and it turned out pretty fucking good.

  12. Gotta trust the org, but seems like a pretty big reach and stretch. I love Veach, but man is not without mistakes in his drafting obviously.

I hope it pans out but i would be lying if I’m confident in that pick. Hope they prove me wrong though 🤷🏻‍♂️

  13. Sure seems like they could’ve gotten him at 63 or later. I like Tillman who was ranked higher and he’s still available. Hope they’re right.

  14. This is CEH-level reach. Don’t like it.

Last night’s pick made a lot of sense. Doubt I’ll feel the same about this second round trade up pick tomorrow.

  15. I like it. We need a WR who can track the ball. I think that was what we missed the most from Hill. Ball tracking, contested catches, instincts to come back to the ball. He will fit right in.

  16. Feels like a reach and I don’t feel like there’s a whole lot separating the WRs in these middle rounds so I can’t say I like trading up to get him.

But I’m not fussed ultimately. There’s enough goodwill for me when it comes to drafting over the last few years to back their choice.

  17. I think that neither Tillman or Hyatt went in the 1st or 2nd round at all tells us how off many of the lead media draft guys were regarding WR ratings.

With that being said, felt a little like the Hardman draft pick. I saw it and went “who?”. For a casual draft follower it wasn’t a name I had seen a lot.

  18. Highlights I’ve found on him. Posted the highest vertical for a WR at the combine. Also posted top 3 in the 10 yard split. Top end speed ain’t great but his get off is pretty quick

That’s pretty damn good for a 6’1” 204 lbs dude. All the rest of his traits are pretty average. Not a lot to really ding him on

Pretty damn happy with this pick. Didn’t give up too much to get it. WR are going like hotcakes in this draft. I see promise and he’s gonna be a solid player for a while
