I’m happy about this. He implemented systems that worked well when the players followed them for the first half of the season. Also happy with him calling out the team in public after game 5. Just hoping Chevy makes some top six changes that everyone here on Jets Reddit thinks need to be made.
OH NO. Please don’t run it back, start the full teardown and rebuild this off season. Don’t make me hate this team more.
* Same GM
* Same Coach
* Same Players (possibly)
* Same Old Shit.
Unless there are significant changes to the roster it’s just going to be another wasted year.
Now I see why he ran back his comments about his disgust.
Do a slight rebuild you cowards
Me likey, but Chevy will need to shit or get off the pot this summer. If not…………….. your cut!
Go away Chevel
Good, Bones was NOT the problem. Hopefully his exit interview was 10x as nasty as his press conference and we can cut out a lot of the rot this off-season. If not, maybe we can get some contenders to bite near the trade deadline on some expiring guys.
Move wheeler in any way possible, move him at a loss even. Retain salary. Trade Dubois cause he’s gonna leave anyway and get what you can.
All I ask of him is he gives Ehlers more ice time.
My thoughts on everything so far:
1. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Bones coming back is good in my eyes. We’ve seen that his systems can work and, however brief, being at the top of the conference wasn’t an accident. The improved penalty kill was also nice. Going out and getting another coach in such a short span isn’t likely to fix any problems and could end up exacerbating things.
2. Bones worked with what he had. He took the C from Wheeler. He put Scheifele on the wing. He had the team playing better defence. He turned JoMo into an offensive beast. He put Ehlers on PP1. He wasn’t perfect, but when the team was clicking we looked like a force.
3. Brain chemistry is a powerful thing and there’s only so much a coach can do. Once a player is on the ice, it’s no like there’s a switch you can flip where they play up to their potential. Players go on cold streaks, chemistry with other players fluctuates, they get inside their own head, etc. This all has a cascading effect and can be hard to get out of. The team had a historic drop-off but Bones did manage to salvage and get in the playoffs. No, the team shouldn’t have plummeted the way they did and I’m still not sure how it happened and what you do to prevent it. The fact that he helped recover it, though, is a silver lining.
4. Let’s see what Chevy does with the players before we start yelling “same shit all over again.” The playoffs are still going and we just got knocked out. No one is re-signing or being traded for a while.
