[Boston Globe] Matt Porter: Orlov sounds like he wants a deal with the Caps. Open to Bruins, certainly, but a lot of years there. At 32, he said, “It’s my last contract.”

  1. Love to bring him back. He’s a solid defender and his absence was brutal.

  2. Sure, if the price is right for his age… we can’t really afford to bring him in for like $7m AAV.

But if we *can* get him at a reasonable rate, then GMBM’s deadline moves this year might be the best I’ve ever seen anyone make.

  3. Would be great to bring him back after shipping him. We cant do a long contract or high money. He is in the backend of his career, even as a Dman

  4. Then hopefully Boston gives him the long term contract he wants. They should have a decent amount of cap space opened up. If not, GMBM needs to be firm with something short-term or let him go try to find what he wants elsewhere.

  5. I like orlov, but if he wants to be paid super star money, the caps need to pass. We could even make the front end heavy, 3 years receiving 5 mil a year, then 4 years receiving 3 mil a year. That’s a 7 year contract for 27 mil, almost 4 million a year to retire with. I think that’s honestly reasonable, especially if we don’t end up lSUPER long term. Another trade could happen down the road with a favorable contract like that, even though it would be a big “fuck you, it’s just business” move. I don’t think orlov wants to get paid 7 mil the next 7 seasons, I think he just wants to have a contract set in stone that says he’ll play a long time. A loaded front end contract could help both parties out.

  6. I’d love Dima to come back on a team friendly contract, but there’s just no way unless the top six upgrades are made in a cost controlled manner and one or more of the newly re-signed Dmen (Jensen, TvR, AA) are moved.

GMBM has committed to getting younger and bringing back Orlov, as much as it pains me to say it, doesn’t fit into that goal.

  7. Orlov is a uniquely talented a player. He’s an excellent d-man, his hitting ability is second to none, he’s got an absolute cannon of a shot, makes excellent passes, and sees the ice very well. Want him back.

  8. He was the only player I was sad to see gone at the deadline. Dude is one hell of a talented D man.

  9. Must hurt to go to the best team in the league and then lost right away in Round 1.
