What would 5 rings do for his legacy in the league and on the Lakers

  1. Puts him one away from the ghost he chasing. I’m sure he wants to finish his career with 6

  2. Not much else than to cement he is the goat in terms of longevity – but I think he already did that with the scoring record

  3. He’d be the GOAT. He already is, but this would make it indisputable.

  4. Lakers gets 18th championship – the most in the NBA. Currently tied with Boston at 17.

EDIT: He’d definitely be a “Laker Great” for that, if not already.

  5. If anything it would just elevate his legacy as a Laker and help his case to get his number up on the rafters.

But in reality he’s already top 2 all time (I personally think he’s the GOAT) so that won’t change.

  6. Probably solidifies him as the GOAT, honestly. I think there’s a great case that he’s already the GOAT, but that would make it pretty hard to argue.

I mean a 7th seed champion? Has that ever even been done?

  7. 5 chips for Lebron and 18 before the Celtics….yeah, I’d be cool with it.

  8. LeBron is what, 3rd all time at worst? Ring number 5 (with this broken team) would be the greatest comeback in NBA history. Undisputed GOAT. Ring 6 would just be creating more distance.

    1. Most points scored

    2. 4th in assists

    3. 5 rings across 3 franchises. Putting up historic numbers in season 20

  9. He gets to sit at the table with Kobe and Magic. Imo, 5th ring will solidfy him in the top 3 all time.

  10. For real tho another ring would justify a jersey retirement. All time in my opinion it solidifies him as the goat without question if he’s the driving force and balls out in the finals. I think he already is but he would be 5 rings 5 fmvps. Sure it’s not 6-0 but 5 with all time scoring record would be insane

  11. Even if he made the finals and lost, it would still be crazy good for legacy. The gap between his first (2007) and possible last (2023) would be 16 years. In that span of time, whole AllStar/HOF careers have occurred (Blake Griffin, Joakim, Marc Gasol)

  12. In terms of overall status, I say he’s the GOAT with a 5th this season. Just incredible if he pulls this off.

In terms of all time Lakers, I’d put him 5th
    1) Kobe
    2) Magic
    3) Kareem
    4) Shaq
    5) Lebron

  13. I’m willing to admit that basketball is 60/40 split between MJ and LeBron being the goat, and I think both sides are intransigent.

I think number 2 in LA makes his Jersey retired here though.

  14. it would cement his legacy as someone who is very above average at basketballing.

  15. I don’t personally think he needs to do anything else to build his case as best ever. As far as his legacy with the Lakers, it’s worth something. I mean, it’s kind of crazy to him having more seasons as a Laker than he was on the Heat. It doesn’t seem like that long. Second ring and five years should get him his jersey retired, I think.

So, in a way, to have three different teams retire your jersey would sort of insane.

  16. He already the GOAT but if he get another one in year 20 it shouldn’t even be a argument anymore

  17. I think the better question is… what does 2 rings do for AD? Does it justify a jersey retirement (a la Pau Gasol) – and if not, what would?

  18. At this point of his career his legacy is basically cemented for what it is. Some have him as the greatest ever and others have have him behind Jordan. And this ring wouldn’t change the opinion of those that have him behind Jordan. Just gotta appreciate him while he’s still playing.

  19. Nothing, he’s already cemented as my GOAT. Jordan won 3 rings vs a washed Jazz and the SuperSonics. In my eyes he only has 3 rings

That’s the logic they use against Lebron so fuck it, I’m fighting fire with fire 😂

  20. For bron it would just give more evidence that he’s the goat. Simple. 5 rings, a shit ton of all star appearances, the leader in points of all time in reg season, post season, and both combined. 5 FMVP assuming he gets it if they win this year.

For the best franchise in the nba, it would mean he’s at least top 5. Kobe magic Kareem shaq then bron maybe? 2 rings in 5 years with 5 all star seasons and 1-2 finals mvp would help his case.

On another note, AD’s legacy on the LAL should go up too since he plays a huge ass role. Maybe he could be top 10? Kobe magic Kareem shaq bron then in no order you can have pau, worthy, Baylor, west, then maybe AD?

Not too sure on the rankings but just my 2 cents.

Also, #5 would put the lakers up 1 on the leprechauns. Fuck the Celtics.

  21. He’s already the GOAT but another ring/finals MVP would make it unquestionable. He already has arguable the most difficult ring ever in 2016 and has dominated both the west and the east at different stages of his career

  22. Considering what this team has been through this season and what he’ll have to do to help us get there it wouldn’t boost it quite a bit. He would also have his jersey retired for 3 different organizations.

  23. Tbh I don’t think it would greatly improve his current standing that much. After passing Kareem, most would already consider him at least top 3? I think it would do more for his legacy as a Laker though, for sure.

  24. I don’t think people are changing their opinion on who is the goat. People who think MJ is be the goat will probably remain where they’re at and people who choose LeBron will stay… it will do more for his Laker legacy than Goat legacy in my opinion.

  25. Strictly as a Laker, he will be remembered as the guy who put the Lakers above Boston once and for all.
