  1. Briere’s first draft. His first pick. No way he takes that much risk.

  2. Whether I think it’s the right move or not… I do not see the Flyers taking a Russian this draft. At all.

  3. I don’t know who Derek the writer is, but his writing style is horrid!

This guy is not falling to 7.

  4. If somehow Michkov falls and you get a shot at a generational talent at 7, you take it.

Which means we will passing for a guy who “plays the game the right way”.

  5. You don’t pass at a guy with this level of talent at #7 if he falls, same old song And dance with this shit franchise.

  6. Well the good news with Michkov is that he plays for St Petersburg, which has no military ties, unlike CSKA, where Fedotov played. Putin seems to be pretty lax with regards to places in Russia where young people can leave freely. There’s no real risk with Michkov unless he gets traded to CSKA, and then you’ve got worry. The fact that a number of Russian players who defected and have returned to Russia without consequence is good news. On top of it, Fedorov, Mogilny, Larionov have been counseling players about going to the NHL and what to expect and they’re encouraging players to go to make money.

  7. If Michkov falls to 7, it’s because there’s significant concern that he won’t be able to come over to NA, not because of his level of play.

It’s not really for any of us to say whether or not they should be taking that risk when we have no gauge as to just how big or small the risk is.

  8. if they take him, and never get him, it would be so fitting for where this club’s luck is these days

  9. Not touching him or any other Russian player right now. There’s a very real scenario that he and every other player over there aren’t getting out of the country. Look at what just happened Fedatov when he tried to come over, that’s the future of the younger Russian players trying to leave.

  10. Picking at 7 is a really interesting concept. It will be hard to find a trade partner willing to take our 2nd round pick to turn it into 7th overall after we pick first overall as well.

  11. Absolutely. He certainly won’t be there at 7, but if he for some weird reason are, you naturally take him. This guy is legit. I get that there’s concerns with the ongoing war and the fact that he won’t come over until 2026, but he is a generational talent and he will come over to play here, just like all the other Russian stars do. Imagine we are in 2026, we are nearing a completion to the rebuild and suddenly a 22 year old superstar shows up and makes $950k? Sign me up!

  12. I doubt he falls to 7 but if he were to, I’d take him if you have a guarantee you can get him over to the states ASAP. I’m pretty sure when they took Rubtsov he went to the QMJHL after coming over from Russia. Not sure if any rules have changed since then.

  13. You can call me a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist all you want, but his dad was murdered by Russian agents. A healthy man in his 50’s doesn’t just go for a Sunday night walk and end up drowned in a nearby pond. This happens to businessmen and people of significance in Russia all the time for disagreeing with the Putin regime. The fact it’s not regarded as a blatant assassination in Sochi just shows how little people understand how fucked up things are in Russia. My guess is Andrei Michkov was asked if his son plans to play in North America, he responded that it will be Matvei’s choice… and now he is dead. This is all horribly depressing for the kid and I wouldn’t blame him at all if he decides to play in the KHL so that no further harm would come to his family.

  14. That’s not very *200 foot good IQ decent at some great at nothing with concerning injury history* of you
