  1. Passing on Jalen Carter at No. 8

    >It wasn’t a tough decision for the Falcons to pass on Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter when the No. 8 pick rolled around Thursday night. That decision had been made well before Thursday as the Falcons simply weren’t comfortable with how committed Carter would be to football over the course of a four-year rookie deal.

    >The Falcons made their choice. They’re comfortable with it.

  2. Throwing Jalen Carter under the bus like this is wild to me, and I’m both a UGA fan and a falcons fan. Just say he’s not fit for the team and move on, piling on trying to justify why they passed on him just makes the falcons look worse.

It’s not a secret that Jalen has character concerns, but UGA found a way to build their team with enough high character guys that they could afford to take some risks with other talented players that maybe don’t check all those intangibles boxes. It’s a delicate balance, putting together a good mix of good football guys and good locker room guys, but UGA managed it.

The eagles managed it with their long history with years and years of really solid guys on and off the football field, then they recently added a lot of high character guys from that same UGA locker room, and as a result they were able to absorb some of the risk that comes with taking Jalen Carter simply because of the quality of the overall organization. And honestly, my falcons don’t have nearly the same credibility, we can’t confidently say we have a strong enough coaching staff and locker room to take on the same risks better teams can. Yet. Hopefully we keep drafting high character guys and develop them, hopefully we keep improving the coaching staff, hopefully we keep improving our ability to manage/develop the roster, and hopefully we get to a place where we can afford to consider taking great players like Jalen with confidence, knowing we have a really good shot at putting guys like him him in a place he can succeed. Both on and off the field. But right now, that’s not us yet, and it’s not only jalen’s fault we’re not a good fit for every player right now. there’s a whole lotta years of coaching and playing that got us here too. It’s a two way street. Anyways.

  3. The Falcons have to say this stuff because the media is trying to run the team for us. Lamar, Ridder, Carter, Bijan, whatever, the media can’t shut the fuck up about what they think we should and why what we’re doing is wrong. I appreciate the pushback from the team tbh, they’re doing what they think is best and if you’re not on board so be it

  4. What are the quotes from Falcons personnel? The Athletic is paywalled.

  5. I fucking hate the Athletic they are such drama queens man it’s always some snitching shit

  6. I don’t want to cheer for scummy dudes. Man fled from an accident while his teammate and supposed friend was dying on the road. I’m not s falcons fan, but my team also looked into Carter, and passed. I’m glad they did.
