  1. Soooo where the fuck is Gorman going to play? We can’t just take our best hitter out of the lineup.

  2. If Dejong stops hitting Edman goes to short, but idk. This seems god awful. Sign a catcher only to not have him catch much anymore a month into the season? Sick.

  3. Andrew Knizner is now a starting catcher. Welp. Let’s hope that HR last night was the start of something. Although this does make me wonder if the pitching staff was consistently complaining about Contreras’s defense?

  4. This is honestly laughable… let’s pay a dude 88 million to be a DH. Lol. Let’s put him at 1B or in the logjam outfield we have.

  5. Wasn’t Mo’s self – imposed primary objective this off season to acquire a catcher to replace Yadi? So…..he didn’t even do that? Landing a guy who can hit and slot into catcher every day was the selling point.

Basically nothing was done this season to improve the team is what I’m taking from this.

  6. Mo probably confused Knizner’s .450 OPS as his average and think he needs more playing time.

  7. Is Contreras’ defense sub-par? Is he not clicking with the pitching staff? Are they trying to say his pitch calling or framing is responsible for the 2-strike performance possibly?

  8. If the FO or manager are blaming Contreras for how bad the Cards have been, then that is deeply unfair. They’ve been subpar in basically every facet of the game.

  9. Well if the players weren’t demoralized and confused they sure are now.

  10. So…Nolan Gorman is going to sit, while Andrew Knizner is going to play every day?

And if we play Gorman in the field, someone else is going to sit in favor of…Andrew Knizner?

Is Gorman hurt? Is Contreras hurt? Did Gorman’s dad get in a fight with Mozeliak? What’s going on?

  11. Big, big fuck these guys now… Scapegoating Contreras for the pitching staff woes. That’s what is happening now, complete bullshit.

  12. Yeah, inexperienced catchers will really help this pitching staff. Jeeze Louise.

  13. WHAT!!!!WHAT!!!! WHAT!!!!WHAT!!!! WHAT!!!!WHAT!!!! WHAT!!!!WHAT!!!!

  14. This is maybe the strangest and most deranged management of a team I’ve ever seen. Let’s piss off our stars and young talent to play inferior players going nowhere. It is too far gone with Oli and Mo.

  15. I blame the FO entirely for the teams current state. Someone said it better in r/baseball, but this has been a trainwreck in the making for years. We knew our rotation was weak, but with the shift and our defense we were able to make them look significantly better than they actually are. Without it we’re seeing just how weak that rotation truly is.

Sure, Wilson’s inability to call a game isn’t helping, but we knew exactly the type of player he was when we signed him. This is pure blissful ignorance from the FO finally catching up with them… and us.

I really tried not to feed into the fire Mo trend over the years, but honestly, fucking fire Mo and his gang of yes men.

  16. Tell me this team is a mess without telling me this team is a mess.

  17. I’m just speechless. We already have too many outfielders, and we *just* signed Contreras to a five year deal to catch.

Smells like panic, which is not something I ever thought I’d say about Mozeliak & Co.

  18. This organization is fucked. This tells me they understand the season is lost .

  19. Better start getting batting practice for the pitchers. We’ll have a lot of pitchers in the DH slot.

  20. So…. I guess we went from “it’s early, patience”, to “rebuilding for next year”. Cool cool cool.

  21. We really are a joke aren’t we? We just paid this man almost 90 million dollars to replace yadi and two months into the season we are doing this…

  22. Crowded OF so we send down the best prospect we’ve had in a decade, but hey let’s throw the catcher we signed into the OF now

  23. i woke up to this news and i thought i was still dreaming. i’m so confused.

but i don’t find it a coincidence that this happened right as wainwright came back with his first start? last year herrera got sent down right after his start as well. maybe he took it upon himself to have a meeting with the pitchers.
