Tyler Anderson statcast numbers 2022 vs. 2023.

I obviously didn’t expect 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP again. Maybe 3.6 and 1.15? But the underlying numbers are sooo bad right now. He’s getting hit harder than any other season in his career at 36.5%. We saw how great he can be in the start against Milwaukee. Biggest thing, and this goes for all our starters including Ohtani is cut down on walks. Anderson has a career high walk rate of 10.9%, which is basically the same as the team’s BB rate of 10.8%.

  1. Yikes dude. And remember that Anderson is the first free agent starting pitcher that the Angels have signed to a multi-year contract in 10 years. If this doesn’t work out, it’s gonna scare Arte back into those 1 year reclamation contracts for over the hill pitchers that never worked.

  2. So you are saying a free agent who performed well on his former team signed with the Angels and now totally sucks? Incredible. Never seen this before….

  3. This one really
    Stings. Dodger devil
    Magic was too
Risky. Hope he figures things out

  4. Are these snapshots taken from the same point in the season? Seems like a fairly meaningless comparison if that’s averaging all of 2022 vs one month of 2023.

  5. Yeah if you’re not a strikeout pitcher and rely on weak contact, walking guys is the exact opposite of what he should be doing.

  6. You’d think that whatever mechanic changes or pitch sequence changes he learned with the Dodgers would have at least carried over a little. Seems odd.

  7. This was to be expected. 2022 was a career year for him. He’s literally been the most average pitcher you could be for his whole career. We just need him to at least be average.

  8. Couple other observations from his savant. His mechanics are definitely off, he’s getting way more extension on his release than prior years, up to 6.3 ft compared to 6.1 ft last year. Changeup isn’t dropping as much, and his fastball velo is down.

  9. his fastball is cooked. Its the pitch you need to throw for a strike, opening to a sequence and tyler cant throw it without getting rocked.
