  1. > “Other than new OC Bill O’Brien, it’s hard to get excited about a team that finished losing five of the last seven, with the D/special teams allowing 29.7 points per game in the last seven weeks,” King wrote. “And then defensive leader Devin McCourty retired.”

BoB is a huge step up and should be reason alone to be excited

  2. Peter King being a hack aside, I don’t get the impression that people are all that enthused about the upcoming season.

I fully expect the Patriots to have a top 5 defense, but they’re really banking on OB being able to just fix the offense. They really haven’t done much to improve it outside of that. So yeah, I get people not being excited.

  3. I’m excited personally for Jack Jones and for Christian Gonzalez. Ty Law is my favorite player of all time and I love elite corner play.

  4. Disagree. This is going to be a 10-12 win team that’s young enough that they’re likely to get better.

  5. As a fan its always easy to get excited, but optomistic is another thing. I hope for a great season, but Im expected a mid-tier finish with what they have now and what the division looks like.

  6. I’m also very excited to have our defense make Aaron Rodgers and the Jets look like ass holes next year. Its like two Christmases.

  7. I’m excited as fuck.

Outside of Billy OB coming in and replacing the (possibly) worst OC of all time, here’s why:
    – Edge rushers could be nasty this year. We all know Judon is a stud, ans Uche really came into his own during the 2nd half

  8. I am excited for patriots football. I don’t have any expectations.

  9. Rhamondre is a stud, the o-line should be vastly improved with real coaching, the defense is adding some young pieces, Patricia is gone, Boutte could be the steal of the draft, ST should be better (but still probably not as good as in previous years), there’s plenty to be excited about just none of them are as sexy as something like the Jets getting Rodgers. That all being said, they have the toughest schedule in the league so even if they’re a much better team than they were last year it isn’t a guarantee that they’re going to win a ton of games.

  10. Disagree, we’ve had a couple good drafts in a row and just addressed a huge important weakness in OC. I’m very excited for next year

  11. I don’t think this team will be good, but I’m reserving judgment until we see how these rookies do in training camp and preseason.

  12. Lets be realistic expect a mid tier finish due to our schedule but if theres massive progress in the right direction theres no reason not to be excited

  13. I’m excited for the draft class because they didn’t try to outsmart everyone else including themselves. They let the Lions do that for them. However, it’s good to be realistic and recognize that this team still has some serious holes and has a brutal schedule against teams they don’t have a great record against as of late.

It’ll be a rough year, but this draft class has the potential to be a foundational one and make up for the 2022 one. I still think 8-9 is their peak and could do as bad as 5-12.

  14. They will improve but I get what he’s saying. I’m excited as a fan but an outsider/someone indifferent without bias doesn’t really have a reason to get “excited” about the pats there’s nothing wrong with that.

  15. I agree tbh. We nearly made the playoffs with a mismanaged offense but also our division rivals are super strong on paper right now.

  16. Excited for the Defense for sure. We def have the potential to be one of the best defenses this year of course that relies on Gonzalez being a hit early and figuring out whose going to be playing free safety. But the potential is there. In order for the offense to be good enough to cause any noise a lot of things would have to happen. Too many to be too optimistic. 1) Need to see Mac Jones not only return to form but be better than he was as a rookie. 2) need to figure out whose even starting on the Oline and hope they don’t suck 3) need a breakout from one of our young WRs (Thornton, Bourne, Douglas). 4) Hope the veteran receivers are more consistent productively and that Juju picks it up quickly. It’s possible for the offense to be good but considering the rest of the division a lot things will have to go right

  17. 2 WR with big upside, Gesicki and Juju, an ACTUAL OC, and 2 great defensive additions. The only thing I would change is go OT earlier than they did. Was shocked they actually picked like 12 players instead of trading back up into the 2nd or 3rd
