I knew Soto was pulling the ball more this year, but didn’t realize the extent. Here is Juan Soto’s hit spray chart by year. In 2023 he only has two hits that were on the opposite side of the field.

  1. If you look at any other year, the hits are so well spread out that you probably couldn’t guess if the batter was left or right handed based only on the spray chart. But if you look at 2023, you’d think you were looking at Daulton Varsho’s spray chart.

  2. Just because the shift is banned doesn’t mean to HAVE to hit it pull side, Juan!

  3. Exactly! I just want Soto to practice hitting more balls to left. I don’t care if he grounds out to short or pops out to left. Just ANYTHING to left! I also want to see him jumping on the first pitch heater like Nando does

  4. On 2022 graph he has a triple dot right next to home. How does that work?

  5. Why don’t we go after an ex player who ACTUALLY knew how to hit as a hitting coach?

How about AGon? Soto needs help, and he isn’t getting it. It’s not ability. He doesn’t suck. He needs an adjustment and the staff we have isn’t helping him.

Mark Loretta. Bring him in as a special assistant. Anyone. Someone.

  6. As a Nats fan, the difference here is shocking. He was always capable of hitting oppo at least once or twice a game with the Nats. What happened? Is it a coaching issue? Or is Juan trying too hard to make things happen?

  7. I was one of those people that thought a banned shift helped him. But you realize smoking the ball directly to where the 2B is doesn’t matter if there is a shift or not unless that 2B fields like Eric Hosmer.

  8. Eh, I’m at the point where I’m feeling this could be quite the tragic trade. And it’s probably a good thing we aren’t looking to sign him to a huge long term deal Asap.

  9. At least he has been driving the ball to center more as of late. I think he’ll be fine by mid summer 👌

  10. I was thinking the same thing and checked his fangraphs page, something like 50-52% balls pulled and his career norm is like 38%

  11. 40 games in and he has 2 hits left of second base and people still think it’s just a matter of time before he’s old Soto.

It’s going to take serious work to get him back there if it’s even possible at this point.
