[Petriello] Alek Manoah’s K% is now… 2021 = 28%; 2022 = 23%; 2023 = 17%. It’s not great. So what is it? 🧵

  1. A combination of the league adapting. , The lack of a third plus pitch in his arsenal and missing his spots.

  2. Pitch clock messing with his pace leading to it messing with his mental

Needs to build conditioning, get used to the clock, and go to a sports psychologist imo

  3. All that publicity gave him a fat head. He needs to get in shape. He needs to get the adulation out and pitch. I see IL in his future.

Just get back in the game Alec. You can do this.

  4. I’m definitely no expert but what I’ve noticed is that hes often off balance or stumbles after his delivery. Idk if it’s because he’s exhausted, hurt, rushing his delivery due to pitch clock or his mechanics are just off but it’s noticeable. Last year we’d see him do this from time to time but now it seems like every second pitch leaves him off balance.

I can only speculate as to what it is but a 91mph fastball you can’t locate and a slider that either starts outside the zone or ends up dead center of the plate won’t cut it in the MLB. I know he has what it takes to be elite. I really hope he can fix whatever is broken.

I’d love to hear a pitchers POV on the matter

  5. He is not planting nor pointing his front foot properly, Its not consistently towards the plate and he also seems to be landing more on his heel then the ball of his foot.
