  1. It’s crazy that despite EVERYTHING that has gone wrong so far for the Mets they’re still only **one** game out of a playoff spot and **three** games out of having the 3rd best record in the NL. The NL is so fucking bad this year without the Cardinals being good and I still expect the Mets to make the playoffs.

If we were in the AL we’d be fucked.

  2. Remember when Pete told us to basically shut up and smile cause they got this?

That was last year and things have gone completely off the rails. Maybe the fans aren’t the ones with the loser mentality?

  3. For our offense to take such a huge step back compared to last year, you almost have to blame the hitting coach changes.

I’m not just looking at the stats, but the approaches.

We saw guys like Canha, Mcneil, Nimmo, Guillorme and Lindor work pitchers, foul things off and stay in the at bats until they were forced to get something to hit. It was not uncommon for our guys to get a pitcher up to 20+ pitches in a single inning without even a run scored (just cause they grinded down pitches in the at bats).

This year the ability to stay in at bats and grind down a pitcher is even more important due to the pitch clock. If you don’t give the pitcher time to breath after an out, he will get tired more quickly and make mistakes.

However, our guys aren’t doing that. They are swinging first pitch, striking out looking, going for power and home runs, etc. There’s none of that gritty, dirtbag, stay in the at bat mentality. It’s just not there. And that is the biggest difference I’ve seen between this yr and last yr. Ultimately, I think that probably falls on the coaching…

  4. It won’t be long until we have another Rat or Raccoon situation and Lindor thumbing down the fans because they hurt his feelings.

  5. Mets do not have an everyday player leader, Alonso and Lindor are not those guys

  6. Once again a Mets starter gives up a run in the first and the offense gives up immediately.

There were a few games where the offense battled but they don’t have that consistent fight, and it’s hard to blame them.

The starting pitching has to be better and Senga didn’t have it tonight despite throwing four scoreless after the rough first.

He has to be able to put up a zero in the first inning for the sake of the offense staying in the game psychologically.

This will be a long season.

  7. This organization needs to fire Eppler ASAP, then sell like they never have before. Canha, Vogelbach, Escobar, Guillorme, Pham, and Nido all have to go, and that’s just the start. Get anything you can for them (preferably pitching prospects), then call up Ronny and Vientos immediately afterwards. Put Marte on the market & try to convince teams that he can return to his 2022 form if he’s fully healthy. Put Scherzer on the market too and offer to take on most of the contract to any team that might want him. Don’t be afraid to get rid of Otto & Robertson either if you get a good deal in return.

Then get ready to embrace the youth for 2-3 years.

  8. It’s kind of funny, players must read negative news / tweets and be like “it’s not like the fans or writers could play better.” Probably not, but it’s not like we could be much worse at this point

  9. I think it’s time to call up Mark Vientos and option Guillorme

Even though he won’t play every game, he’s not improving in AAA anymore. He’s reached a plateau there. Facing MLB pitchers, even if it’s in a platoon/backup role, will help him develop more than facing AAA pitchers

Will it fix everything? Definitely not. But I think it’s the right call to make.

The Mets should NOT call up Mauricio though. The people clamoring for that do not realize what a disaster he would be in MLB right now with his plate discipline(or lack thereof)

  10. In 2019 the nationals started 19-31. In 2022 the Braves started 23-27. This is a horrible start but there’s still a lot of baseball left

  11. Couldn’t watch the end due to finals, but Alvarez and Baty are the only batters with fight on this team… give Mauricio and Vientos a shot, you can’t be shut out at Great American Smallpark in a bullpen game for the Reds

  12. I don’t know if it’s wishful thinking or what but thinking that Vientos and Mauricio are gonna help Alonso, McNeil and Lindor not be absolute dog at the plate is an interesting proposition.

It’s supposed to be the other way around. The core of the lineup are the guys who are expected to make it easier for the rookies to settle in. And right now, only Nimmo is doing anything worth a damn, just like in 2021.

  13. Lindor is not living up to his contract. Throw out his WAR all you want, he is not playing like someone getting paid a third of a billion dollars.

Marte might be the laziest player I’ve ever seen. If he’s hurting, shut him down. If he’s not, bench him and eat the money.

Canha was a decent player who slightly overperformed last year, he’s severely underperforming this year.

I cannot take anyone who continues to defend Vogelbach strictly because of his OPS seriously. He has a high OPS because he doesn’t swing the bat. There are plenty of players than can overinflate their OBP by refusing to swing. When he does make contact, it’s pitiful. If you use his OPS to argue he’s doing good, you are strictly watching baseball for stats and not results.

  14. Att: 14,855 on a really nice day for baseball. Ouch! Not sure what that says about the Reds or Mets.

  15. Amazing that a team with this payroll is turning into a “let the kids play and see what happens” team. It’s like they need to tank this year so they can trim the fat

  16. Anyone not betting against the Mets every game right now just hates money.

  17. I hate that it keeps coming down to Lindor, and I don’t blame him for all the problems on this team. But he is not the player I thought we were getting and I’m disappointed. A ten year contract doesn’t mean you get three or four years to figure things out. He should be peaking right now and I just don’t see a player that merits the outlandish contract he has.

  18. This team is gonna pop off so fucking hard when the braves are 20 games up in Aug

  19. Like the grounds keepers say in Major League 2….”We suck again”

  20. I am sad. This is sad. I still think this isn’t as bad as a team as it looks right now and things will turn around. But the ceiling of this team just doesn’t seem as high as I thought.

  21. How do you unfuck so many years of bad management and stripping the farm? Cohen is doing his best but we have short term solutions, we need a younger team. It’s gonna a take a few more painful seasons but I have no doubt our young guys are gonna come thru.

  22. Cannot wait until the eppler experiment comes to an end this offseason
