Sam Blum on Twitter: Mickey Moniak is back with the Angels. He’s the corresponding move for Lamb. Moniak had a .939 OPS in Triple-A this year. Will be interesting to see how they utilize him. The reason he didn’t make the team initially was so he’d get everyday at-bats.

I’m surprised by the move. If Ward isn’t injured and going to start most days, what is the purpose of the movie? And wont they need to send him down when Walsh returns next week? Can’t send down any more infielders after sending down Lamb.

  1. They need a left-handed bat that swings better than Brett Phillips. One of the outfielders will have a day off during this stretch, I’m sure.

  2. I assumed it was because we need someone to fill the slot between now and when Walshy is back and there isn’t a better option

  3. I have a feeling if Moniak shows some good ABs then Ward is riding pine in a platoon roll. His offense has not been good this year. If Mickey is swinging a hot bat you have to give him a shot.

  4. Mickey Moniak has done nothing but hit home runs in AAA. He deserves this call up.

  5. I don’t think this move means anything besides the team wants to keep Lamb in the organization for depth. Lamb is a lefty, so they wanted to replace him with another lefty from the 40-man. With the versatility of the rest of the infielders, they could afford to bring up an outfielder.

  6. Some competition might help Ward. Phillips and Rengifo can’t compete for his spot.
