Gus Bus is in timeout.
The Brewers have designated Gus Varland for assignment one day after the Rule 5 pick allowed nine runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Can’t blame the Crew on this move.
Good
After getting drilled in the head, then once on his IL stint I don’t doubt he is shook.
He was a Rule V lotto ticket. They can’t all work out.
I’ll assume he gets reclaimed by his original team otherwise some Nashville might be good for him.
This is disappointing with how he started the season. I was rooting for him.
They should have given him more time on the IL. I watched him pitch for the Sounds during his rehab and he looked terrible. Could not command anything. But since they called him up they probably had no choice but to release him after that outing. I feel bad for him. Looked like his career was finally going to work and a freak comebacker ruins it all.
Welp a 120+ era will do that to ya
I feel bad for Gus. Getting drilled by liners from 2 consecutive hitters faced has to get in your head. Hopefully he can sneak through waivers and end up in Nashville because he showed some promise.
EDIT: Does anyone know what’s up with Ethan Small? Looks like he’s having a nice season so far. I have literally never heard of the last 2 pitchers they’ve called up.
He showed quite a bit of promise at the start of the season. He’ll get more chances to fulfill that, even if its not in Milwaukee
Varland has options. That’s not the problem. The problem is the Dodgers can give us some paltry amount of money to buy him back from us.
There is another option we can work with the Dodgers and trade for Varland. I suspect it would be for a prospect outside our top 30 or PTBNL.
Not surprising. Worth an early season flier if they saw something they liked, but he is 26, had never pitched above AA before this year , and was pretty bad in 100-some AA innings to boot. Can’t waste a bullpen spot trying stash a guy if you want to make the playoffs.
That sucks he actually looked good before the comebacker wonder if that just really shook him up
Position players eating up innings perform better
Cougar lost it and turned in his wings
