Can New England Really Start the Season 2-2?

  1. I could easily see them winning or losing every single one of those games

  2. We could… we could also go 0-4 or 4-0. It’s football, and more specifically, it’s May… any given Sunday we could pull off a win or stumble into a loss. Let’s see what we look like in training camp. New season and I can’t wait to see what it brings

  3. I think the Pat’s are going to be vastly underestimated.

The OT situation last year was awful because we had no real depth. Cajuste, Wynn, Stueber, and Cannon were all injury prone. Switching Wynn and Trent Brown to the opposite tackle positions (thanks Matt Patricia) was an awful decision (all because trent played this during the 2018 season). Trent Brown had only one, 1,000 snap count season prior to last year (in 2018). He traditionally is a 500 snap tackle. I also think Trent Brown lost 20lbs because he had to play through sickness for a couple of weeks because no tackle depth has gone unappreciated.

Sure, we didn’t get any crazy stars for tackle, but right now, we have much better depth and support.

Mix this in with the removal of Matt Patricia and the implementation of BOB, the acquisition of Gisecki (he only played 45% snaps last season and held similar projection as his 2021, 70% snap with 750+ yards), and … above all else, it’s hard to even measure Thornton’s potential because it’s very possible that our offensive scheme was just not effective. And since Mac loves throwing to Hunter Hebry, a 2 TE format may mock the Gronk Hernandez schemes which would benefit Mac’s playstyle under the assumption our offensive line can hold up long enough where we aren’t consistently allocating TE for blocking d/t weak and flimsy OL.

The defense looks fantastic – we just need to hope Jack Jones doesn’t have attitude issues because he was already suspended once. And now we hopefully will have punts not averaging an abysmal low 40s. That killed us last year. I hope our FG kicker pans out because there were also times we had to go for it because we didn’t have faith in a 46 yard fg.

I know. I know. We didn’t get a WR1 or a star tackle. But, hopefully, we have more depth and rest for our aging tackles, have better field coverage with punts and special teams, and build upon our defense to shut down opponents.

I think the coaching decision-making was much better than our decision-making with last year’s draft. I won’t go into crazy detail but our choices lead to a hole in guard position which required Cole Strange. And, again, our OT last year was literally built on an entire injury-prone tackle deficit. This year, I do not feel we created any holes. I feel we patched up punting, kicking, special teams, corner, I do believe we have a better passing game with Gisecki, and have new talent for Judon and Uche to train in case we lose them in the next 2 years; same with safety and dug if we don’t re-sign him.

This draft was 1000% better. And, in conclusion, hopefully our OL has a dedicated coach instead of someone like Patricia trying to OC and OL. We drafted Cole Strange and didn’t give him a real OL coach in his rookie season…that’s insane to me.

  4. Maybe? A lot of people in this sub are 1000% certain the team will go 0-17 if we don’t start Zappe.

  5. not only can they start the season 2-2, i’d figure it’s the most likely outcome

  6. Could they start 2-2? Sure, anyone can start 2-2. The Chiefs, the Bills, Bengals, Patriots, etc. Anything is possible.

Do I think they’ll start 2-2? God no. Their first 4 games are insanely hard and they’re more likely to go 0-4.
