  1. 1. Gretzky
    2. Orr
    3. Lemiuex
    4. Howe
    5. *Crosby*
    6. Richard
    7. Bossy
    8. Béliveau
    9. Brodeur
    10. *Ovechkin*

    Crosby and Ovechkin

  2. I really don’t understand the argument that Kane isn’t top 15 when it’s all said and done. Considering what he’s accomplished in a salary cap league. His career isn’t over yet. But the guy is a surreal offensive talent and absurdly clutch. Go ahead goals, put ‘em away goals, game winners in the highest stake games year after year during their dynastic run. If he’s not top 15 overall, he has to be a top 15 playoff performer.

  3. How about Tretiak? Many would say he is the greatest goalie of all time and rank him up there with Gretzky and Orr in terms of all time greats. He did not play in the NHL but many from Gretzky and Orrs generation are familiar with his body of work.

Lafluer is another to consider from that Era.

Anyone who doesn’t include McDavid is fooling themselves. In a short time he has proven to be the Phenom.

  4. I know it’s a discussion on active players, and he currently (well, most recently, who knows about next year) plays for the Rangers, but seeing Kane in a Rangers jersey in this discussion just doesn’t feel right. Didn’t make much of an impact after the move and everything you can bring up about him that make him worthy of this list, he did in Chicago.

  5. Sorry to the Ovi lovers. Great scorer, there have been many other players who were more elite during their generation. Yzermann, Joe Sakic, Messier, Clarke were more dynamic. Ovi is in the same category as Espo, Sellane, Bossy – great scorers.

  6. How is this defined, best for their time vs peers? If so McDavid, Ovi and Crosby.

If objective skill/ability, many on this list would destroy Gretzky, Mario etc in their prime.

  7. Just Crosby. If McDavid’s career ends today nobody is saying he’s top 10 all time, and Ovi is simply not good enough. Not saying he’s nowhere close, but not top 10.

  8. Crosby and Ovi , Mcdavid will easily be top 10 eventually. I also want to add that putting Erik Karlson on this list as a potential top player in history is a joke. The dude has horrible defensive metrics. He’s not even in the top 100 players of all time.

  9. Not me wondering if in a few years Jack Hughes will be a name tossed around for consideration.

  10. Ovi guaranteed, and I think Crosby can be likely. If McDavid had a full career absolutely. Everyone else are elite elite, but I don’t think you’d say their name defines an Era like Ovi does…

  11. I would argue McDavid is in the top 5. No player has ever dominated to that degree that he does.

  12. You need to submit your top 10 list for this to count.

It’s easy to say “he’s top 10” but when it comes down to it, that means removing someone currently in the top 10. The other issue is, most of us haven’t seen Orr play, let alone the players before him. Recency bias is always a thing.

  13. Crosby is a no brainer, ovi is a no brainer. McDavid is the greatest scorer since Mario but if he’s going to go from greatest scorer to top 10 greatest players he’ll need to win a championship imo.

  14. Top 10? Sid and Ovi, McDavid will make it assuming he even somewhat continues how he has been.

  15. Why do people assume guys like Gretzky and Lemieux wouldn’t approach the game and preparation differently if they played in the current era. Most All Stars from the past would be All Stars in this era because simply, they would put in the work necessary to succeed

  16. bergeron has never been a top 10 player in the league any season, nevermind all time top 10

  17. Ovie for sure. Maybe Sid. McDavid maybe. If he exhibits durability and consistency throughout the remainder of his career.

  18. Only ovechkin being second in goals and that’s a stretch in watered down league full of minor Leaguers
