A year ago today, I posted this thread while the Jays’ offence was in a slump, ranking 16th in baseball. They finished the year with the second-best offence. Many of the same patterns are present today. It’s Early.

  1. So fix problems now, and finish better than last year. In four games, the Yankees outscored us 17 – 9. That needs to stop. Also, stop fucking pitching to Judge.

  2. I needed this! Thank you!

It’s interesting too, usually I don’t even look at the standings until closer to the all-star break, this season i was looking after the first week. definitely effects the fun you can derive from simply watching the games (which to me is the whole point?) great to put stats to “there’s lots of baseball left!”

  3. Good stuff. Was thinking about this yesterday and never knew it extended this late, thought it was an April problem last year.

  4. Hope your correct, wouldn’t call it early though as we are more than a quarter into the season here.

  5. We have a lot of guys in a slump rn, Springer, Chappy, Varsho,Whit, Kirk.. all we know can be better than they are at the moment, I expect all of those guys to improve and that will give the offence a big improvement

  6. If the next 6 days go like the last 4 then the Jays will be at 25-25 (maybe 26-24) come May 25. Leaving 112 games remaining.

If the Jays can’t figure it out TONIGHT then they are seriously getting close to being too far back to matter. If the Jays lose 5 of the next 6 and then play .600 the remainder of the season their record will be 93-69 (nice).

If the Rays win 5 of their next 6 and then play .500 the remainder of the season their record will be 94-68

If Baltimore win 5 of their next 6 and then drop to .500 their record will be 89-73

I don’t think Baltimore or Tampa will go .500 from here nor do I think Toronto will suddenly go .600. These next 6 days are crucial…and the team looks poorly prepared.
