  1. Kniz getting a lot of the Monty/Matz/Mikolas starts still. Reminder that there were multiple pitchers that reportedly blamed Contreras for their ineptitude, not just Jack, who seemingly got fed to the wolves

  2. Shoddy pitching and shoddy defense just isn’t going to cut it. When we make 5 runs, we must win the game.

  3. Jesus Christ Oli, stop putting Contreras as DH and let him be a fucking catcher.

  4. My main problem is the handling of the 10th. You simply must get him over, then get him in otherwise the home team will.

  5. Tres Barrera has been with the team for over 2 weeks and that was his first plate appearance of the year.

  6. It was like watching a person with two left legs try to walk. The whole game was… uniquely stupid. Ah well. Maybe tomorrow.

  7. 1-4 hitters can’t go 0 for 17. I don’t give a shit if they had a few walks. That is unacceptable.

  8. This was just a shit game. It happens. Gotta bounce back tomorrow but plenty of blame to go around
    – Barrera has no business being on the roster. Just a horrific, dog shit lazy catcher.
    – Goldy and Arenado need a day or two off in a row. Goldy really looked lost tonight
    – Gumby needs to figure it out. He has to go longer than 4 innings and has been mediocre for the last 3 starts
    – Helsley is a 1 inning guy (tonight isn’t on him)
    – I woulda sent Hicks out for a 2nd inning, gave Gio the 9th and Helsley the 10th

  9. We are at the point where removing Kniz for a vet catcher for 2 innings. Is considered a travesty, and worse decision than 1. Letting his horrible bat hit with a RISP, or 2. Removing the DH and allowing a pitcher to hit…….

Some people on this thread I swear lol

  10. We clearly do not understand the art of baseball if we don’t understand why Barerra was catching in the end of the game.

  11. I love Goldy and Nado but I have never seen 2 perennial MVPs be so un-clutch. Definitely not saying this game is their fault (or any game for that matter) but I can’t remember a time where they come through when needed recently

  12. How dare the cardinals lose. I will hold them each personally responsible for my disgruntled demeanor this evening!

  13. Doomer’s can calm the fuck down…we were lucky that we were in that game for so long given how our 1-4 went **0-17 and we left 12 men on base**. That is usually a death sentence for a club. Guys have off nights. Shit doesn’t work out in this game.

And yes, Tres Berrera isn’t great it looks like. But pinch hitting lefties against Diaz was definitely the right move there. You want Contreras to stay fresh and mash come September? You can’t lean on him in every close game. Doesn’t work like that with catchers these days.

Props to the back of the order stepping up and making this shit worth watching. Also fuck Manfred for the ghost runner. With the pitch clock we definitely don’t need that shit anymore.

  14. What’s the most desired outfield lineup these days? With all the changes, I’m having a hard time keeping the rotating cast and my thoughts straight.

  15. While I feel more confident in our bats overall, it still seems like everytime the other team scores 5 runs first, they win

  16. On the bright side,Dejong had great performance. Some people argued about firing him last season. He seems fine this season.

  17. Love the battle-back but hate that it was needed and fell short.

I definitely expected a “hangover” day today, though.

It’s fine, on with the next 3!

  18. If you look, our closer has lost 3 games this year. Not good for a closer this early in the year.

  19. u/wisewolf0808 shared [this video](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cardinals/comments/13lyc5u/great_vid_on_nolan_gorman_2022_vs_2023_comparisons/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=) about Gorman three days ago. Great post. Great video. At the end of the vid, the MLB Network crew highlighted Gorman’s success against elevated fastballs this year vs. his struggles against the pitch last year. Gorman took the first one tonight, but strikes 1 and 2 of his ninth inning AB were elevated fastballs.

  20. I didn’t see much of this game but I do know you never need three catchers.

  21. Of the last 11 Cardinal offensive outs, 9 were strikeouts. Hard to score doing that.

  22. #EVERYONE SUCKS!

    #MANAGEMENT SUCKS!

    #OWNERSHIP SUCKS!

    #WORST TEAM EVER!

    jk

    see ya bois tomorrow <3

  23. Thinking about flying to Cleveland this weekend for the games. I have points and it’s affordable. Cleveland a good time??

  24. A bit overreaction to this loss.

Yea it was winnable but cant win every game

  25. Helsley has shown that he is cooked after one inning. No need to go 2. Also has a flow on effect in upcoming games. Some things are important for a manager to be dogmatic on. This is apparently one of them.
The problem is, oli and mo are dogmatic about the wrong things, like gorman not hitting against lefties earlier this season. Contreras dh regularly (guy needs rest, but we are in the fight for our season now), shuffling guys down the order for nonexistent splits, this fucking rotation and not tweaking it meaningfully.

Sure we’re running low on bullpen arms, so either don’t burn our starter who did not need go pitch underdone yesterday, and have him tucked away for today if needed, or don’t carry a 3rd catcher who thankfully doesn’t see much field time and add another arm. If you live by the kiz, you die by him. Own it if you must play him.

  26. Eh, got beat on extra inning bullshit. Lineup only put up 4 runs, Goldy/Nado/WC didn’t help much. Not gonna win many of those tbh. An acceptable loss. Brewers lost too, no ground lost.

Let’s win the next 2 and keep series streak alive!

  27. I could only catch the last two innings. It’s frustrating to strand bases loaded opportunity.
