Terada: Celtics ‘never got over’ Ime Udoka dismissal (Woj Report)

  1. I hate even posting this, but only because it’s Woj talking about it on ESPN. It just comes across as messy and piling on in relation to the timing.

I say it’s messy because this is couched with this framing:

    >“I think with this team, and talking with management, they never got the answers, they never got anymore answers than the public was getting on this,” Wojnarowski said. **“That doesn’t mean they haven’t accepted Joe Mazzulla as head coach. But this is a team that really believed in Ime Udoka, had a strong connection with him. I think there were a couple instances this season where a lot of that angst resurfaced. First, when the Brooklyn Nets nearly hired Udoka as head coach and then when the Rockets did.”**

EDIT: RealGM included this for those that didn’t watch the segment on YouTube:

[**Wojnarowski also suggested the Celtics possibly made a mistake in not hiring a more experienced assistant coach under Mazzulla.**](https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/271661/Celtics-Never-Got-Over-Ime-Udoka-Being-Dismissed-As-Head-Coach)

  2. We may have to rebuild our whole team in the future and hire a new coach again but at least we have good HR. That’s all that matters

  3. Every quote they’ve had on the subject has lead me to believe woj is right they never seemed to accept how it was handled for better or worse

  4. grown ass men can’t get over their creep of a head coach being fired? what are we doing here.

  5. Yeah this season was cursed from the beginning. Ime got fired leading to a chaotic coaching situation. Our assistant coaches all left. Gallo got injured before the start if the season. Rob Williams missed the entire first half of the season. It’s sad because otherwise we were pretty healthy.

  6. I truly don’t believe the front office actually disclosed exactly what happened to the players and I’m assuming most of them don’t think they handled it the right way. They probably don’t think what he did warrants essentially getting rid of him and I don’t blame them. None of us know what happened in detail so idk how anyone of us can say they made the right or wrong call

  7. It’s a tough situation for the org to be in, but they probably shouldn’t have been so tight lipped with the players on what Ime did to get suspended. Having said that, with how rampant misogyny is in this country, especially sports/NBA, I don’t know if the players would’ve accepted the suspension/firing regardless of what Ime did.

  8. I miss Ime too. Apparently he’s a creepy fuck stick, but those videos of him and the team during the post season being road assassins you could tell they were all loving the ride. Fuck.

  9. Ime was the best thing that happened and now he’s out he is missed

  10. Then they should be mad at Ime for fucking it all up, not the organization.

And woj is the mouthpiece for calling everything ‘consensual’ immediately.

    Clearly an Ime plant.

  11. I think the biggest mistake the FO made was not disclosing what happened to the players at the very least. I’m fine with not knowing, but at least in my mind the players needed to know for the sake of closure. They may not have agreed with it, but closure is always needed. They were being asked questions they had no answers to. And it is only natural now for the thought to creep in that maybe this series would be different with Ime in charge. If they would have been told that it was final, that doesn’t happen. Communication is key. That is where the FO went wrong most of all. I’ll use my experience as an example. I work in education. We had a teacher about 4 years ago who did one of the only things that can get you automatically fired. Literally within 8 hours of finding out our entire campus and district administration had us on campus telling us what happened and as much detail as they legally could provide. It was clear and concise. No confusion. That is what this group of players needed…communication and closure.

  12. What’s this have to do with the Miami series? They never got their Ime crush yet somehow ended up 2nd seed in the East, beat the Hawks and the Sixers… it’s always some sort of bullshit excuse for this team. What’s next? They served waffles instead of pancakes?

  13. The players themselves have mentioned not receiving clarity on the situation. The Celtics is a company though at the end of the day this is an HR situation so they aren’t getting those answers

  14. At this point it’s a mess.

Players deserve to know. It’s closure. They prefer Ime. But if this man was canned for legitimate sexual harassment, then shame on all these players for being bitter about it.

But we don’t know. If this IS the case, the players deserve to know. They haven’t moved past it, and if this is the issue, Brad needs to tell them what happened, IF it was this bad.

  15. Most work places in the real world take domestic violence pretty serious and won’t hire you if you have a history of DV. Pretty funny how the Celtics overlooked that with Mazulla huh.

They fired one guy for workplace misconduct and hired a domestic abuser. Makes sense

  16. If the players are affected by this, we would have chocked against the 76ers. Joe didn’t get the help he needed. He was asked to be the head coach less than a month before the season openers. Not fair for the players and Joe.

  17. “Why a team that made the conference finals was destined to be a disaster” is a weird take.

  18. This is an easy article to write when we’re down 3-0 in the ECF. Heard nothing about it when we were cruising to a 2 seed. Not saying I disagree but why not write it when it would take some balls to publish, instead of now when it’s reception is a resounding “duh”.

  19. Just shows you how unprofessional and soft these players are. They didn’t get what they wanted and they let it affect their play on the court. They clearly have no pride in themselves.

  20. I imagine it’d be impossible to explain to a room of professional basketball players about there being accountability for your abuse
