[Tabitha Mueller] Gov. Lombardo said he would not sign any bills implementing the state budget until his priorities are passed. The statement comes in response to Democratic legislative leaders saying they would not move forward with major policy bills until the budget is approved. Story soon!

Uh? What the fuck? Where did this come from

  1. The worst part about all of this is, on top of worrying about whether my baseball team is moving, I now need to keep up to date on Nevada politics lmao

  2. Can anyone expand on this? What are the governors priorities? What is this standoff about?

  3. This is hilarious. Fisher can’t make a deal happen to save his life. Brother, just come back to Oakland. They’d love to have you*.

*And by “you” I mean the team. YOU can kick rocks, asshole.

  4. Gov Lombardo *has* been talking about vetoing the budget for while now. It’s crunch time though, politicians have to play their politics game so we’ll hear more bickering in the coming weeks.

In my opinion, this won’t affect the A’s financing bill much. I assume he’s going to make some guarantees to Dems that approving the budget is contingent on if the other politicians will approve the A’s bill.

  5. Yea Baby! Never have I wished for political gridlock more than now!

Glad to see the A’s ballpark isn’t called out as one of his priorities….

  6. Can someone translate this into non-political baseball speak? Does the special session for the As stadium funding fall into the budget category or the policy category? Neither?

Either way, it sounds like this puts more time pressure on everyone, which is a good thing.

  7. TBH I don’t think gridlock will matter too much to the A’s bill since the governor can just call special sessions even after their legislative session ends.

However, I will say that the longer it takes, the more time there is for organic backlash to rise amongst Nevada residents. Maybe calls to put it to public vote or something. Those have already been out there, but unless the Nevada legislators feel pressured by their constituents to do so, they’ll probably just fall in line. Also, the more time it takes the more opportunities there are for Fisher and Kaval to screw it up even more, and for the A’s to keep losing games lol.
