  1. If you have the chance to have the modern day Babe Ruth on your team, you do it regardless the cost. I don’t care if it’s a 3 month rental, this guy is one of a kind.

  2. The Angels have Trout and Ohtani and they suck. Gutting the franchise for one player would be dumb no matter who it is.

  3. I’d be happy if we signed him for like 5 years / 250 million. Someone else will offer more and that’s fine. Not worth trading for 3 months of Shohei unless we’re seriously looking like a World Series contender in July, and even then… I don’t like the idea of expensive rentals

  4. Obviously I would LOVE to have him. But I just can’t see a world with him signing here after the season. Make the call and see what it takes but anything short of WS win and it’s not worth it.

  5. Well the first thing I would do is keep Phil Mackey as far away from the conversation as possible lol

For real though, unless you’ve like already agreed to terms on an extension or if the Angels end up asking for much less than they’re expected to I don’t think that trade would be worth it

  6. Mind you these are the guys who would be whining about the Twins doing nothing for ten years after gutting the franchise for two months of Ohtani.

  7. This isn’t the NBA. You need lots of good players to be a good team. Rarely makes any sense to trade the farm for 1 guy in baseball.

I would like to keep building and doing strategic trades.

  8. I’m gonna preface this by saying I didn’t listen. That being said, I would trade anyone on our team if Shohei was guaranteed to sign with us long term. If it’s a 3 month rental I’m genuinely not interested for what the price would be.

  9. Its a 3 month rental, it won’t cost Lewis anyway. Would likely cost something like Prielipp and Salas

  10. This isn’t the team to gut the farm and go all in on rentals for. At least not guys at Ohtani’s level. I’m not saying don’t make any moves at the deadline

  11. 1. No
    2. The Angels currently have a better record than the Twins (28-23) and have a good shot at the playoffs. Why would they trade him now? If anything they’ll probably be buyers this year.

  12. I really don’t know what a rental package looks like for Otani. You have leverage knowing the Angels will suck and that Shohei is walking regardless, but it’s still going to be more than we’d be willing to part with.

Larnach, Balazovic and someone like Severino/Schobel plus a kicker maybe? Even on trade simulator that’s not enough for Otani. You could take Otani and Rendon’s contract for less prospect cost but that doesn’t seem like a wise use of resources.
