[@NFL_DougFarrar] So. You punted Derek Carr out of the building, you fumbled the injury situation with a quarterback whose injury history was already iffy, and you are potentially left with a big box of meh at the game’s most important position? Cool.

Well, at least our commitment to being a laughing stock is back

  1. Because Jimmy was leading this team to glory ?

It’s perfect with the college QB situation looking good for next year.

  2. Not so good for signing players though. And we’ll probably lose Jacobs and Davante next year. Then replace them with Corey Dillon and Troy Brown.

  3. They gave Carr an extension and a trial run for a year. They clearly wanted it to work, but wisely gave both parties an out. They didn’t think a 32 year old Carr off a poor season either fit their system or was worth a long term commitment at $35m per year.

They discover Jimmy G needs surgery and give him a contract that is void if he doesn’t recover in time and can easily be cut after 1 year even if he is healthy. They don’t want to commit long term to Jimmy G.

They only like Bryce Young, but don’t like the cost of trading up to get him. They opt to build a better roster for the QB next year and trade up in the 4th round for a guy they do like. They don’t want to commit long term to a 1st round pick they don’t like.

Mcdaniels has many faults, but despite the narrative he has had a lot of success with QBs with sub-par talent (and I’m not talking about Brady). Mac Jones was superb with McDaniels in his rookie year and massively regressed without him last season. Lots of late round Patriots QBs have had similar success with McDaniels.

I am happy with McDaniels and Zieglar waiting to commit long term to a QB that fits their system. Even without the injury, looking at the contract, Jimmy G is not a guy they are committing too. I suspect they are waiting until next year’s draft. I’d rather not invest a lot of money in someone that won’t be productive.

  4. They didn’t fumble the injury situation with JG they knew exactly what the situation was. They planned on allowing it to heal on its own (which is what most people do) but have since realized it won’t and now surgery is the answer. JG isn’t our future anyway so either way no big deal.

Once you see HE is HIM at QB you will totally forget about JG anyway!

  5. At one point will raider nation realize that Carr at best only makes you a possible playoff contender? McD or not… it was time to move on.

  6. This is a pretty bad take. I wouldn’t say JMD “fumbled” Garappolo’s injury situation, certainly not yet. JG failed his physical and they reworked his contract, that’s a reasonable move.

  7. If only there was a way we could have been warned he would not be a good head coach after finding success as a offensive coordinator only for him to alienate the franchise QB and throw him under the bus ultimately separating both parties.

  8. The Bellechick coaching tree is the proven worst in the NFL. McDaniels blew up Denver before running back and hiding under Bill’s dress in New England.

Until this guy is gone, expect more people demanding trades, FAs leaving, internal fighting and general team chaos. And losing…lots of losing.
