Kevin Newman is batting .385 in his last 15 games and .304 in his last 30 games, per @RedsInFour, pretty impressive.

  1. Not to say it’s everything (because he’s ridiculously hot right now and splits can’t account for everything) but Bell has been playing him almost exclusively against lefties which is his wheelhouse

  2. Between this and the Reds winning the last 8 games that Casali has started behind the plate, the DFA Newman/Casali crowd is IN SHAMBLES. At least they’ve got Myers to fall back on.

  3. Newman is an effective utility man. When he’s in the lineup, people should stop bitching. He is nothing more than utility & he deserves occasional starts.

Do I feel like that role could have been filled by Alejo Lopez instead of trading Moreta? Yes. Moreta has looked great in Pittsburgh, racking up a lot of strikeouts. But hindsight is 20/20. He was bad for us. It is what it is.

Newman is hitting over .300 vs lefties & has come up big time. So all is well.

  4. It was because I called him stinky at the last game in the Mets series. He’s been great ever since.

  5. Then let’s go get someone’s 15th rated prospect who is in A ball for him and see if we can’t cook up a trade win.
