[Moreno] Noah Syndergaard: “Trying to make big adjustments between starts isn’t easy. I’d give my hypothetical first born to be the old me again. I’ll do everything possible to get back to that. I’m still expected to go out there and compete. … My changeup is a huge vulnerability.”

  1. I feel bad for the dude. Genuinely. But I also feel like him trying to recapture who he was is a fool’s errand. Someone close to him needs to sit him down, tell him that he’s never going to get back to throwing as hard as he used to, and help him make the adjustments to being the best pitcher he can be with the tools he still has available.

  2. OK so piecing together quotes over the last few months is … concerning. I know he’s a pro that’s being paid plenty of money and he’s probably super competitive and frustrated but I’m starting to think he could really use a mental health break.

    >2 months ago: “Syndergaard said he might attribute the career low velocity to some of the extra throwing he did between starts trying to work through mechanical tweaks. Considered tonight to be a step forward overall.”

    >22 days ago: “Struggling Syndergaard trying hypnosis to turn season around”

    >5 days ago: “It’s just hard going out there with the weapons I used to have kind of being taken away from me. I just don’t possess enough right now to successfully battle a team like that.”

    >Today: “I’d give my hypothetical first born to be the old me again. I’ll do everything possible to get back to that. I’m still expected to go out there and compete. … My changeup is a huge vulnerability.”

  3. it must drive you nuts to be one of the ones who doesnt come back from tommy john the same when theres other guys who come back fine

  4. I admit that I’ve been ragging on Noah since he left the Mets, but this is really sad.

  5. When Noah signed with LAD, I thought, like many others, no brainer. 18-5 year, 2.56 ERA.

  6. Seriously, did they let a resident do his TJ procedure? (You might mock this suggestion but there was a pretty big lawsuit pertaining to people who were misled into who was actually doing their surgeries). Like, we even see older guys like Verlander, Sale and Paxton come back from TJ throwing close to their prime velocities but this guy has completely lost it.

  7. If we’re honest he was never the caliber of pitcher that his Mets teammates were. Wheeler, degrom and the dark knight all had had periods of top pitcher in baseball, syndergaard didnt

  8. we will always have game 5 of the NLDS Degrom
after Battling thru Traffic all night Handing the Ball to Thor coming out of the Bullpen to shut down the Dodgers always thought that might be his future .Will also always have game his start in the world series hope he figures it out

  9. The old him didn’t listen to team medical advice and wound up severely hurting himself. Maybe he should try being someone else entirely

  10. Moreno] Kelvin Benjamin: “Trying to make big adjustments between meals isn’t easy. I’d give my hypothetical first born to be the old me again. I’ll do everything possible to get back to that. I’m still expected to go out there and eat. … My appetite is a huge vulnerability.”

  11. Man, I hope Thor can find *it* again. He’ll never throw as hard as he used to, but he can reinvent himself. I hope he mentally makes the adjustment and thrives.

  12. They should try him in the bullpen. Maybe he can turn it around.

  13. I feel that. I as well would give up his first born for him to be decent again, let alone good.

  14. Dude needs to find something besides throwing a baseball to give his life meaning.

    And fast.

  15. He’s just gotta accept he’s not gonna throw 100 anymore. But there’s plenty of guys that have a lot of success throwing 93-95. Just have to learn how to pitch. Can’t just challenge guys like he used to.

  16. Please retire, Noah. I love you. You’re a great personality, you have a great future outside of baseball doing anything from a podcast to acting two going into the booth to go back to school and becoming an English professor. You’re fantastic talent and even more fantastic guy. Just don’t let it get to this point it’s already past there I think.

  17. So he’s a guy who relied purely on his stuff and never learned how to actually pitch

  18. He hasn’t been good since 2018, and was only really solid for a few years total. Maybe he was never that good to begin with.

  19. Just last year he pitched some HUGE innings in the postseason. There can be success for him without “the old Syndergaard”.

Also shout out to the one single imbecile in this thread who’s downvoting every single comment at 1:30am. Get a fucking life you depraved fuck.

  20. Only thing he has a chance at is doing what a Zach Greinke does Vs a Justin Verlander.

Has to locate. He doesn’t have the arm or wife that Verlander has.
