Ump scorecard for yesterdays game

  1. I was guessing he gave the tigers a 2.5 run advantage. Shockingly less impactful than I had thought.

  2. All this tells me is that the ump scorecards are much more misleading than I thought, because that was the worst ump game I’ve ever seen, and there is NO WAY it favored Detroit. I’m not saying it was bias, the ump just had a really bad day, but he was getting fooled hard by their curveballs.

  3. It’s asinine to think humans can accurately call balls and strikes around the edges of the zone. It’s also asinine to think humans don’t have bias.

  4. There needs to be an updated metric that accounts for how far away each incorrectly called pitch was away from (or inside of) the zone. Not all missed calls are equal. Some of the misses in this chart are egregious, with pitches several inches inside the zone being called balls and pitches several inches outside the zone being call strikes. Almost all of these were relatively easy calls and the ump just blew it.
