[Post Game] Denver takes game 1 of the 2023 Finals

Can’t win if you can’t make shots. And missed shots make offense MUCH easier. It really is that simple.
Everyone relax it’s game 1.
Reminder Heat lost game 1 in 06, 12 and 13.
Strus and Martin shoot 20% it’s a close game.
Credit to Denver. They kicked our ass most of the night. Our resilience is the only thing that prevented a 20+pt blowout. So much for all the hope that “rust” was gonna help us out. Despite the double digit loss, I actually don’t feel too awful. Maybe it’s cuz we’re finally playing a team I don’t hate.
* Bam flourished offensively. Aggressive early and often, was a blast to watch
* We had 2 FTs. We shot 33% from 3. Strus 0/10. Caleb 1/7. Duncan 1/6. OOF.
* Thank you Gabe for bringing it at least. Lowry also got us within 10 early 4th Q
* I imagine people are gonna attack Jimmy for a pedestrian game. I’m not gonna do that.
* Can’t let Gordon eat us up with his size. I already hate Porter’s dumb face.
* Jokic passing is insane and Murray when he’s hot… what can you do?
I dunno. Lakers fans also felt good after Game 1 with the Rui adjustment and then they got their asses swept. I don’t feel “good” about winning the series but I feel like the people who think we’re gonna get our asses beat 3 more times just because of this first result are being a bit hasty.
There’s a path back here, just gotta be sharper. It would really suck if our season ends with our 3pt shooting dying after it ascended to elite levels vs Boston & Milwaukee. We’ll need it. Denver’s too damn good to overcome it like we did vs the Knicks. We’ll see how Sunday goes.
Bam, Vincent and Highsmith were the only bright spots. Rest of the team needs to get their shit together.

The fewest FTs ever shot by a team in the finals. Yeah, the refs had an agenda to let Denver win their first ever finals game at home.
Yes Strus sucks and if he just made like 3 of his wide open threes we win, but Jimmy, as the leader of the team, HAS TO PLAY LIKE HE FUCKING CARES. He does this inconsistent bullshit too much. Enough is enough you want to be a star? Win a ring? This 50% effort shit in THE FINALS is not going to cut it. BE BETTER.
Jimmy not showing up and all theses missed threes…that gets fixed next game…long as Bam stays consistent heat can steal one
2 free throws in 48 minutes.
Reverse the free throw differential and we win by double digits. Just make it even and it becomes a close game. And that’s without even addressing Caleb and Max going 1-17

We fucked ourselves missing some really wide open 3s, that got us trenched. I feel like we can definitely win this series if we just hit our open shots. On to the next one boys, we have two days of rest and that should help the guys not shoot the ball so flat/short.

Denver doesn’t play defense. If we somehow manage to slow them down on offense we actually have a real chance.

Some positives:
– bam playing well
– highsmith being productive on offense and defense definitely should get more minutes
– if we made 10% of our shots we’d probably have won
Oh and we did this with only 2 free throws in the game

Bam and Lowry showed up. Jimmy didn’t.
Feels like another 5 minutes of ball and we’d be able to steal it tonight. Gotta hit shits, liked the Highsmith minutes. Duncan, strus, Martin: 2-23, ain’t gonna happen again. Holding them to 104 pts is legit. We won the second half. The zone l was surprisingly effective. Great bam game.
I actually…feel alright after that?
Shooters were awful but got sooo many clean looks. Almost no cuts to the rim, so nearly no free throws, Jimmy was trying to be more of a facilitator than a killer. Bam will thrive in the drop. Heat in 7.
Honestly gotta be the first L this postseason (outside of Game 2 against the Knicks) where I’m not discouraged. Denver is a flat out fantastic team and we have to hit our easy shots against them to stand a chance.
Also, Jimmy HAS to be better. The ankle is irrelevant. He’s said it himself and we’re at home stretch. 13 points on 14 shots isn’t good enough.
It seems lot less brutal thanks to BAM
Nuggets played well but definitely seemed beatable. If we can snag one on the road and the rest at home we’re good
Jimmy gotta be way better point blank period. It’s the Finals and even he said himself he’s not gone use his ankle as an excuse so I’m not either.
This is the fucking finals, it’s just game 1 but every game matters. The whole team has to bring it but he especially HAS to

Like I said in the game thread. I still have the upmost respect for the Heat. You made it to the finals for a reason. Our team recognizes you. We know, you know, and the teams know Jimmy can get get buckets and can get hot.
Ah well, shot poorly in game 1 against a fresh Nuggets team. I liked the compete to get it into single digits. Being down around 20 or so points isn’t easy to come back and make it a game.
Props to the Nuggets for showing up. Simple as that. Regroup and come out to a W in Game 2. A split is exactly what I’d take anyways.
