Sacramento mayor discusses potential of temporary A’s site

  1. I remember the early 2000’s Kings and the huge push to keep them in Sacramento when Arco Arena was no longer viable. This past season was the most hyped/revitalized the Kings have been in 20 years. The A’s can have that same revitalization.

I’ll say, I want the A’s to stay in Oakland. If San Jose is off the table, Sacramento is a clear second choice (followed by Portland if they have to move out of state). The River Cats can move or share. F ‘em.

I think Sacramento is in prime position to take the lead if Las Vegas fumbles. Take the temporary position and show the value of the A’s in Northern California. I also believe Fisher selling is the only way they stay in Oakland. I doubt he comes back to the table unless the owners and MLB forces his hand. If Las Vegas falls through, Sac might be the only option if Fisher won’t sell.

  2. Sacramento would perhaps be a blessing in disguise. It’s far enough removed from the Bay Area while also having their own distinct media market and localized fanbase. It’s a metro area of 2 million+ that’s been growing with each passing decade. The A’s have had a minor league presence in the area throughout the years.

  3. The Central Valley could be a good move. Sac/Stockton/Modesto is a bigger market than Las Vegas. I’m from Stockton, and I know we’ve got good fans here. Plus it’s close enough to the East Bay that they could still retain a lot of their fans there, while also building a larger fan base in the Valley. The Valley is growing all the time from people fleeing Bay Area housing prices.
