  1. Nido is under team control through 2024 and very inexpensive. Finding a trade partner wasn’t going to be difficult. Catching position is thin league wide and he has a reputation as a plus defender.

  2. I would give anything to see them package Vogelbach and Nido for a triple A quality sp or middle relief with some upside.

  3. Why on Earth would a team trade for Nido when they already passed him on waivers?

Edit: My bad, I forgot how DFA’s work, I didn’t realize the Mets can still trade him after the DFA

  4. Wouldn’t mind getting one of those competitive balance draft picks for Nido + Cash (Red’s and A’s could use money and a low cost under contract catcher). There appears to be some decent pitching depth in this draft that could plug into AA or AAA next season.

  5. It’s a bummer to see Nido go but he’s a useful, valuable asset to any MLB org short st C.

He’s a strong clubhouse presence and a great fielder who pitchers enjoy throwing to, plus he’s signed to a very reasonable deal. He’s an absolutely first class backup and it wouldn’t be crazy to roll with him as a glove-first starter based on his glove (tho obviously he’s better suited to backup duty).

I’m sure he’ll find a spot elsewhere in MLB and become popular with whatever fanbase is lucky enough to have him.

  6. TIL when a player is DFA’d there’s a 7 day holding period where a team can trade him, before he’s placed on waivers.
