[Dennis Lin] Blake Snell on Gary Sánchez: “I’ve always heard about him offensively, but I love him. He blocked, like, a 97-mile-an-hour fastball in the dirt. I threw a curveball and it hit the grass and he blocked it. I mean, I don’t see the problem.”

  1. Big praise from Snellzilla. Knowing he can trust his catcher to block balls in the dirt and slug could do wonders for his confidence.

  2. I’ll admit I was very skeptical of Sanchez having any success here and was a big opponent of bringing him in. Thank fuck I was so wrong, I’m loving the dude so far. I don’t expect him to keep it up at this pace all year, but no matter what he is such an upgrade over what we had at the position. Keep it up Gary

  3. The one he took off the right bicep right after blocking that other pitch was very impressive. I’ve been impressed with the one knee down style Gary also. I’ve heard all about how his framing has improved with the knee down set up & it really does look better. He was brutal early in his career.

  4. He’s a welcome injection of ‘being able to hit a baseball in a timely manner’ to the team. Strong arm from home plate also.

  5. Maybe the scene change is exactly what he needed. Not saying last chances yet after the twins didn’t want him and things with the Mets, he got a shot here to turn it around.

It’s only been a few games yet let’s see. It’s a cheap risk free fill for the FO so nothing really to lose here. So far so good.
