  1. Something interesting I noticed: If you rank our pitchers this season by WAR, the three worst (still with the team) are Kluber, Bleier and Rodriguez. This is the case on both baseball reference and fangraphs. What is interesting is that **all three of these pitchers have club options for 2024**. So while none of these ended up being good acquisitions, they were all made with escape plans. And these three account for the vast majority of the negative WAR on our pitching staff. BR has Kaleb Ort listed as -0.2 and fangraphs has both Ort and Pivetta at -0.1, and that accounts for all the rest.

    Looking at who we have hitting free agency next year, we see that we are losing more weak links than active producers. Our only position player on a veteran contract with negative WAR is Kike, and he is set to hit FA.

    We only have three players with positive WAR hitting FA next year: Paxton, Duvall and maybe Turner, who has a player opt-out. That is an insanely small amount of production to lose to FA in an offseason, especially in a scenario where Turner opts in.

    As frustrating as last year and parts of this year have been, I think when you start to look at the details of this roster, you see that our path to improvement is fairly straightforward. It’s all about bringing up the bottom end, addition by subtraction, etc. I think our continued patience will be rewarded.
