[Grant McCagg] I got an interesting text this morning from Buffalo: “Montreal is developing a reputation here at the combine as the toughest interview for players and going well over the time allotment.”

  1. Hearing the habs are conducting their interviews in Cantonese and asking participants to build a perpetual motion machine using 8 toothpicks and a rubber band

  2. From what we saw last year i’m not surprised.

I know some people in this sub won’t like it but I’m pretty sure that they want more than talent. They want someone with a good head on his shoulder, someone who will fit with the team they are trying to build.

  3. Other teams seeing how many pushups and chin ups the prospects can do, Montreal seeing how many Mensa puzzles they can solve.

  4. We have a special and fucked up market. They want to see who can thrive in our toxicenvironment.

  5. I feel like these interviews go lke this:

“So what do you guys want to know? My hobbies? How I prepare for games?”

“Between your wife and your child, who would save if your house was on fire?”

  6. I’m not really surprised. For better or worse this management and coaching team seems to place a very high value on “character” and “attitude”. That strategy didn’t work out too well for Bergevin, so I’m skeptical about how the remix will play.

  7. In a rebuild that is exactly what you would hope to here. Absolutely no time for mistakes.

  8. I loved the question last year they asked Slafkovsky something like “What do you love about the game?” and he answered that he loves it when the game is close, like a tied game or a one goal game.
