Same old same old BS from Moronzeliak. Pitching has been a pile of crap going back to 2019. This guy keeps talking about finding the answers within. The answers to the pitching problems are not within. He has benefited from a mediocre, at best, division and a fan base that have, until recently, supported him blindly. When he fired Schildt, it became apparent that anyone who disagreed with him would be removed as an obstacle. Like it or not this is the future of Cardinals baseball until Bill Dimwitt commits to signing A-level pitching talent and he gets over his man crush on Moronzeliak

  1. I hate to say it but I almost hope the team doesn’t get their shit together. A 100 loss season would hopefully force meaningful change. If we clawed back to .500 Mo and Co. would declare it a victory and we’d be stuck with the same leadership for a few more years.

  2. No matter what anyone thinks is the core of the problem, I think Mo is on thin ice right now. I didn’t even bother to watch the game yesterday. I’m not alone in that choice. As more people tune out, it will lead to lost revenue in some form.

  3. If people are looking for Mo to come out and say “we suck and we’re fully committed to making moves to right the ship”

    It won’t happen.

No member of the front office will ever admit responsibility for the disaster of a team they trot out daily as the St. Louis Cardinals.

  4. Of all the thumbnail pictures..J Walk diving back into first is not what I was expecting. Not hating, just a random observation 😜

  5. Your analysis reads out of something that you read on conspiracy websites. It’s low effort and it’s pathetic. The answers are very candid and fair. The team is a disaster, but there’s no one answer as to why. For the first couple weeks, it was pitching. The next couple weeks, it was the bullpen. Then they started winning. Then the offense disappeared the past couple weeks. I don’t know what you expect him to do. The team isn’t healthy when all 3 starting OFs that were expected coming into Spring are all on the IL (Burleson, Yepez, and Mercado are not everyday players at this level). The rotation has honestly stabilized and would ideally be a target of upgrades at the deadline, but why would you burn future assets on a team that isn’t proving they can compete this year? Better to hold them and upgrade in the off-season. You’re not gonna fire the manager when no one on offense is producing at a consistent level. Arenado and Goldy are two superstars and have each had massive struggles this year. No change in management is going to affect that and honestly reflects more poorly. The players have even come out and said how they’re not performing as they’re expected to.

  6. I am skeptical that Mo will actually face any repercussions for this season. But, barring a major turnaround, it’ll be objectively insane if Mo still has his job in October. Regardless of his past success, this year has made it abundantly clear he’s not someone that should be running a modern organization.

This team is lightyears behind in player development, especially when it comes to pitching. Other competitive teams like the Dodgers, Braves, Rays, etc. have at least a handful of homegrown arms that are able to meaningfully contribute to the team every year. The pitchers on our current roster that came up through this organization (excluding Waino because he debuted 17 years ago) have combined for 1.4 fWAR this year. That is a problem, but it can perhaps be overcome by smartly acquiring pitchers from outside the organization. People talk about the limited options Mo had this offseason but a) Mo himself admitted during winter warmups he wasn’t strongly pursuing ANY pitcher and b) it’s not like this is a problem that just started this year. He’s picked up a few good arms over the last few years like Mikolas and Monty, but those guys would, at best, be #3 starters on the vast majority of playoff-caliber teams. And for every good move like that, there’s been a Leake, Matz, etc. There has been a lot of talk this year about their attempt to adapt from their outdated pitch-to-contact approach and focus more on strikeouts. It’s good that they are addressing that problem now, but that is something other teams have been doing for several years.

And, to be clear, I personally do not claim to have all the answers. I thought the offense would be much better than it has been! I don’t know why certain guys are underperforming. But, ultimately, it’s not my job to figure that out. I have just seen enough to confidently conclude that the current trajectory of this organization is not on pace to take us back to the promised land. Mo’s reign began by replacing a very popular and historically successful GM two years after he won a World Series with this team. At that time, the organization realized they needed to change their approach and adapt to the way the game was changing. I think we are inarguably in that same place again. It is time to shake things up, bring in some outside help, and evolve into a modern organization.

  7. Just finished reading this and came to this sub to say the same thing. Just nonsensical, superfluous nothing. He spends half the time trying to act like he’s not making excuses but then makes excuses. And I get it, it’s hard not to because it’s hard to break down this team at all when they haven’t been fully healthy. But it’s obvious he’s content to sit on his hands as always and accept none of the accountability.

  8. I mean, what else is he supposed to say? He knows the playoffs are basically impossible with this team’s talent and win-loss record. I’m sure they are beginning to send out feelers to other teams to see what they’d give for a Flaherty or O’Neill (not that either will be worth much).

Let’s just watch the young guys progress and hope Mozeliak has enough spine to sell for the first time in a long time.

  9. Guys hear me out…

I’ve written this year off. We’re done. Which means a worry free summer. It’s liberating.
