Julio Teheran’s performances

I’ve had a look into Teheran’s pitching stats and location to see how he’s attacking hitters, and why it’s gone really well for him so far this season. He does use his stuff less by the book than someone like Corbin Burnes, but he tunnels quite effectively and has attacked the zone a lot which has really helped

If anyone wants a lunchtime read I’ve linked it below

TLDR is along the lines of

\- he has no spin really on his slider, but he uses that to tunnel better with his fastball, often trying to nab the front door against right handers early in the count to get ahead. His change-up has been really effective and so so so accurate so far, same with the fastball

Basically it’s tough to differentiate the any of his pitches, and the one used most (sinker) is hit quite well, but because most pitches look the same the majority of the way, they’re getting slightly underneath the fastball, or topping the changeup to get cheap, quick outs

I’ve got some diagrams and more detail there but that summarises it okay I think

Also his xERA is 3.38, it’s not been a ton of fortune thats caused the good results (though obviously the quality defense has provided some)
