Group seeks $800M in tax dollars to fund upgrades for Camping World Stadium

Not a coincidence this got announced at the same time as the Jags Stadium plans and the potential need for a temporary venue for 2 years. Orlando is going to be pushing hard for that.

  1. That’s a lot of money for a stadium that doesn’t have a true tenant. Orlando City has it’s own stadium. UCF has it’s own stadium.

You’re going to spend almost a billion dollars for two bowl games, maybe a couple neutral site college games and high school football?

  2. Ya good luck getting that when UCF is also pushing hard for some of that money. I don’t understand upgrading the stadium when it’s not used outside of concerts.

  3. Orlando and Orange county have massive piles of tax money that can legally only be spent on tourist attractions. The number of events per year is almost irrelevant. The convention center and amway center get way more money than they really need also. It’s kind of a bitter irony because supposing this money and facilities did attract an NFL team, that team wouldn’t have as much ticket sales as Jacksonville does, even in a nicer facility. The extra money is there because there is a lot of other stuff to do in Orlando, and because there is a lot of other stuff to do in Orlando, the number of people willing to spend NFL prices and 4 hours of their Sunday afternoon watching football is actually smaller.

  4. It would be a travesty if they moved the team out of town for 2 years of Trevor’s prime. That option should be taken off the table. It would be a huge fuck you to the fans.
