  1. For full context, teams that can be forced all don’t want to do it. Lions approached hard knocks last year and wanted to do it. Given how well received the lions hard knocks was and the teams that can be forced not wanting to, they reached out to the lions. At this point, lions have made it clear they do not want to do hard knocks 2 years in a row. Rod Wood mentioned taking the year off from it.

  2. I’ll be honest, hard knocks was an absolute blessing for the Lions to gain some national traction. I traveled quite a bit last year and there’s certainly a notable increase in the number of people repping lions gear, folks talking about DC and the lions in a positive light. It would certainly be interesting to see them do a follow up season and capture the kind of growth from the featured players of last year.

  3. I think part of the reason they wanted to do it last year was so Brad, Dan, and Sheila could showcase the new direction the franchise has taken. They wanted the league to know the passion, dedication, and hard work that the new look Lions have from top to bottom. It was a chance to show free agents that things have changed and allow them to see for themselves what kind of team is being assembled. In that regard, it was a huge success.

But they don’t really need that anymore and probably wouldn’t want the distraction. This is a really big season for Brad and Dan. They need to produce and they’ll want to be laser focused. I would love to see the content but it’ll be August (preseason) before we know it.

  4. Well, honest question, how many teams have actually had a decent season after doing the show?

The show probably would like to have teams that have a more positive outlook because winning teams draw more viewers. And since HBO is a paid subscription, fans of teams that aren’t performing well aren’t likely to pay up the fee to watch their own “lovable losers”.

  5. It would be great for us as fans, but I don’t want it. MCDC said it himself, that complicates everything so much. I just want us to win.

  6. I would love to see the Lions again but for drama, storylines and meltdown potential they kinda have to pick the Jets, right?
