Suter and Chiasson gone?

  1. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m kinda glad. I’m at the point now where I think we need to go trial by fire and get these young kids up here.

    Soderblom
    Kasper
    Mazur
    Wallinder

Prolly forgetting some others that are ripe, but man I’m just tired of all this middle 6/bottom 6 type talent. At some point 1 or 2 of these kids gotta take the bull by the horns. I’m going to continue with my prediction in that Soderblom is gonna be a star, and Kasper is going to be a shot in the arm for this franchise. I’m hype.

  2. Chaisson is a little surprising considering he’s been on try outs the last few seasons.

  3. I think Chaisson would be a good 2-way deal. Net front guy for power play if injuries occur. But that’s if he would want to sign that.

Edit: I also read this before reading the article, which was dumb on my part.

  4. I’ll start by saying I like Suter. Good, smart player who can play up and down the lineup, in just about any role, and have some success. Not going to blow you away with anything, just quietly does his job.

Having said that, with the weak free agency class this year, this could just be his opportunity to get a bigger contract that we might not want to match. Secondly, and more importantly, I’d like to see a larger, more physical player in the role he’s filling. I could say the same about Veleno honestly, and it’s not because I don’t like him. We just have too many forwards of a certain type, and the team is lacking some heaviness and meanness.

  5. What this sounds like to me is that we are gearing up to be making some big moves and big signings. We have the cap space and letting go of two goalies says we are looking to fill that space in a big way (looking at you Hellebuyck)

  6. Suter sucks to lose

But when Kasper is close, JFV might take on that 3C role, Larkin and Copp are locked up with term unless Suter was a star then it won’t “hurt” the team too much

We’re expecting to continue upgrading the roster and that means letting solid players go for better ones

  7. Makes sense for Suter to test the market, but that doesn’t mean he’s for sure gone.

The idea of Chiasson getting a multi-year deal though is laughable, so I’m not sure I’m gonna give too much credence to this report.
