[Hayes] #MNTwins were happy w/reports on Kenta Maeda’s 81-pitch start Fri. FB velo averaged 89.9 mph & he was able to complete 5 innings. He’s returning & they’ll determine next step. Baldelli wouldn’t commit to next step, but wouldn’t rule out use of a temporary 6-man rotation.

I checked Baseball Savant during the game yesterday and I saw he topped out at 91.5 at least during the first 3 innings.
I don’t hate the idea of a 6-man rotation, especially after Gray and Ryan have struggled the past two days.
Also, the chances of all 6 pitchers staying healthy for 3.5 months is unlikely for any team
Does he have another gear he can find? I get a feeling 89 is gonna get shelled.
89mph is going to get fucking shelled lol
Tfw Duran’s curveball touches a higher speed than Maeda’s 4-seamer
He’s going to get lit up in the rotation. Why are we doing this. He can’t even touch 90mph.
Just teach him Clayton Kershaw’s slider and the velo is no problem.
Guys, it’s 1 start. 1.
It’s not like he’s gonna be pitching next week at TF.
This is a process, and he probably has 2-3 more starts in the minors before a decision is made
>The Twins were happy with reports Maeda was averaging 89.9MPH
Me when Im lying
Kind of sounds like Maeda is probably going to be bottom of the rotation ceiling going forward. That said, it’s not like the guy was ever beating batters with speed. 89.9 isn’t really that much slower than his average. So as long his placement is where he wants he can still be serviceable.
