Y’all need to apologize to Klay 😂

Per [Bball Index](https://twitter.com/the_bball_index/status/1673013186285514752?s=46&t=SBW3XJi-eEDBr6FtvDfngg):

Here’s a look at how off-ball guard/wings shot from 3 last season.

⬆️Better shooting relative to shot quality

➡️Easier shots

That shot selection of his may have looked atrocious to us more often than not but my guy was still making a lot of ‘em at a dumb rate lol

*Mods, I didn’t put this in the usual posting a tweet format given the content of the tweet would have been a formatting disaster in the post title.

  1. This is sick and he deserves his flowers for hitting the shots but part of the reason people were getting annoyed was because he was taking unnecessarily tough shots

  2. He was good all season just had a bad playoffs he’ll bounce back next year

  3. I think he just lost his legs in the playoffs. He’ll be a borderline all star next year.

  4. Yup. Only idiots, casuals and bandwagoners call him klank. Real dubs fans know what’s up with Klay.

  5. Can’t wait for all the apology forms next season. His legs died in the last series.

  6. Hopefully, with a full off-season under his belt, one where he actually trains and works out, he’ll get better at his shot attempts. Some of those last year were brutal

  7. Klay scored 8 points against Lakers to really honor Kobe.

If Klay and Poole made an impact against the lakers in that series we could have had a Dubs vs Nugs conf finales.

I was a huge Klay fan but after seeing the excuses on here even from last year’s playoff run, I don’t think dude is coming back. The excuse last year was he needed a summer and full season to get better. Thats what happened this year. So, I’m ready for 23/24 season for excuses.

  8. He was great all regular season for us, lol now show the offense defense chart from the playoffs

  9. He had a stretch when Curry was out where he played the best basketball he has ever played. Looking for big things from him next season.

  10. I hate the BBall-Index plots, they are so vague with their metrics/axes. I have no clue what “shot making” means. And “better shooting relative to shot quality” sounds like it depends on shot quality, making for a frustrating graph. Both axes should be independent of each other.

  11. He didn’t shoot a lot of catch and shoot but off the dribble in the LA series and those clanked repeatedly.

  12. Because there seems to be some confusion for some about what this graphic is saying and what the two metrics measure and/or rate, see below for [Bball-Index’s definitions](https://www.bball-index.com/glossary/#) of the two metrics in the graphs and Klay’s values for each:

    **3PT SHOT MAKING**

Our Shot Making ratings look at 3-point shooting above expectations based on shot quality (as described below). This answers, “Given the player’s degree of difficulty, how well are they shooting?” These values are represented using z-scores.

*If you see a player with a high 3PT% but an average Shot Making rating, you’re likely looking at a player in a favorable situation in terms of quality of shots **that’s reaping the benefits of their environment**. Likewise, we may see a player with a similar 3PT% but lower Shot Quality, that ends up having a higher Shot Making rating.*

Klay’s value/percentile/grade for this metric (across the entire league, not just his position): +.54 / 90% percentile / A-

    **3PT SHOT QUALITY**

3-point shot quality looks at all of our data on openness, whether a shot is self created or not, location on the court and internal estimates of player movement on 3s (the same used for stationary vs movement shooter designations for our offensive archetypes) to estimate an overall shot quality on 3-point attempts. These values are represented using z-scores.

Klay’s value/percentile/grade for this metric (across the entire league, not just his position):
    -1.09 / 9% percentile / F

More detailed breakdown of his scores for the metrics that go into the shot quality metric (I.e. openness, distance, etc.):

    Openness Rating: -2.50 / **1%** percentile / F
    Avg 3pt Distance: 25.9 ft / 75% percentile / B+

In other words, his shot quality metric value is so low because he always has a defender stuck to him like glue. Yet despite that, he’s in the 90th percentile across the entire league in *shot making*.

  13. Unfortunately no amount of stats that show he has a low BBIQ but a really nice jumpshot is going to take the Game 6 Klank stink off him.

  14. I spent a solid minute searching for Klay. Was not expecting him to be that far left and up.

  15. I think the reason for Klay’s poor playoff run was that this is his first full year back. He had a great regular season but once the playoffs hit he dropped off. This being his first full year back and making a playoff run, I feel his legs weren’t there. He was coming up short on shots that he’d normally make and to me that’s a tell tale sign that his legs weren’t ready for it. He’ll come back next year and do great. More off-season work and conditions to get his legs back under him.

  16. cannot believe people tried to push “Splash Triplets” or call Joran a Splash Bro. Nope.

Klay is the second greatest shooter of all time. He does not get enough respect on here. He helped us win 4 rings (nearly 5 if he didn’t get hurt in Canada)

  17. Crazy that Bullock and DFS got the best shot quality by far. Goes on to show how good Luka is at setting them up
