  1. John Collins has ruined any trade value for Ayton. Hopefully the offer wasn’t anything more than Bullock and Hardaway

  2. My question with Ayton is if he’s drafted 15th does anyone think of him this highly? I really think getting picked ahead of guys like Luka, Trae and even JJJ while being reasonably good massively inflates how people look at him.

  3. Ayton could be a good fit, but depth is becoming more important in today’s league, and without large expiring contracts a deal would likely be detrimental overall. It also makes sense that Phoenix would want to give him another season with their new group considering how much they’ve committed to his max salary.

  4. Looks as tho Atlanta misread the trade market pre draft and I feel like our offer was more than likely pre draft as well so have to think phx will come down on their asking price or just roll with him til the TDL.

I never saw him being traded to us regardless of what we offered do the “feud” or competitive bad blood currently between these 2 franchises

  5. I look at this a different way (if true) and it’s about the teams willingness to accept risk. And if this team is willing to take a shot on Ayton they should at least gauge NO interest in getting rid of Zion.

  6. I’m glad we didn’t get him. He’s a good player but a snowflake in the head. He will miss an assignment and Luka would bark at him and he will sulk for ten games. I’ll take lively over him all day long.

  7. Haynes is spinning this to make it act like it’s in Phoenix’s favor.

Phoenix is desperate to get quality role players out of Ayton. We probably were “serious” about offering Tim and Bertans.

Realistically, Phoenix probably can and should get two guys 7th/8th men who meet his salary.

But right now Ayton’s value has never been more negative on that big of a contract after that bad of a playoffs performance. And how the fuck are you gonna have tension with Monty Williams of all coaches?

  8. Apparently THJ-Holmes-McGee but suns didn’t want to take McGee’s money. Seems weird to me for both teams honestly

  9. Well, for me the good news is that I’d much rather the Mavs err on the side of playing hardball, especially when it comes to flawed, expensive players whose contract value can easily turn negative if things don’t work out.

But ngl, Ayton could be a pretty awesome get if you can get away with (mostly) giving up older role players.

Then again, long term roster construction with 3 expensive contracts (Luka, Kyrie, Ayton) is a major headache, so it’s far from obvious that this is really the way to go.

  10. If he comes here and shows that lack of effort and interest Luka will be barking at him all the time, a recipe for disaster.

  11. had this discussion on twitter and while i actually think ayton is kinda soft, he is a very good nba center, prob between 6-9(maybe higher in some areas).

The comparison to Tyson Chandler is great but tyson wasnt ready for 4-5 seasons(an injury is in there) but clearly the first 5 seasons compared to his seasons 5-10 is what they hope for. I’d see year 3 -4 when he comes around and has experience in the league.

Its clear that he didnt set the pnr well at duke, which is a key part of the mavs offense and lukas offense. On defense, all offenses are gonna target him, which will get him either in foul trouble or beat at the basket. The refs arent gonna give him any calls on D either, which is what they do to rookies. I think you will see flashes of brilliance and a lot of growing pains.

Thats why i think Ayton would be key if he is available. Mavs would have him for 3 years max which would be time for lively to develop and see where hes at when aytons contract is up in 26. And maybe ayton comes in and fits great, and it allows the mavs to trade some folks.

At the same time i just dont see the suns wanting to trade him to the Mavs and would rather have him in the East.

  12. The Mavs clearly have interest in Ayton, but I just don’t see it happening. A: I doubt we could put together a package for Ayton that multiple teams wouldn’t be able to outbid, and B: Phoenix is contending for a title. I seriously doubt they want to help create a potential powerhouse in their own conference. If they end up trading him, they either trade him to the East, or to a team that’s nowhere near being competitive.
