[@charlieo_conn] “Do I like today’s trade for the Flyers? I don’t know how anyone could like when you give up a useful player, retain 50% salary for 3 years, and get only a 6th rounder in return. That said, they pretty much had to move on from him. It wasn’t gonna work between he & Torts. Period.”

  1. How the fuck do we only get a 6th rounder when we’re retaining half his fucking salary?

  2. Why though? He signed the contract. He needs to just step up, If he doesn’t want to put in the effort, bury him in the minors. But trading away a 2nd line forward while burning a retention spot for 3 years in a league that hasn’t seen a solid salary cap increase in years Is pretty inexcusable. It feels like they made a desperation trade while not in desperation mode.

This is my last comment on it because I’ve said all I can in the other thread, but this is a real head scratcher for me. I literally think running out his contract was more valuable than this due to facilitating other trades.

  3. I think it was a favor to Hayes sending him to a team that’s still in the mix. Probably could have squeezed a mid pick out of a shittier team looking for depth. In the end though shitty signings always lead to shitty trades. We just weren’t gonna get a first or second with the cap crunch rn. Is what it is. Fuck Fletcher as always. Trades a D- in my eyes though.

  4. Thanks “Torts”. Everyone on the planet knows you hate him. Everyone knew we desperately wanted to dump him.

  5. I remember arguing with someone on here that torts putting all this shit out in the media isn’t thinking big picture enough and would hurt the team in trade negotiations.

He should’ve been showcasing the players he didn’t like and keeping silent as it would make getting rid of them easier.

Not saying it’s the entire reason but it’s hard to not find a relationship

  6. We definitely took a big L on the return.

I like Torts as a coach so I may be a bit biased but Kevin Hayes should shut up and do his fucking job. My general manager is pretty fricken terrible to work for too so he ain’t the only one.

  7. The blues got extremely lucky the rest of the league didn’t know Hayes was available for 50% retained. I had a little hope with Briere and it’s all gone.

  8. When Johansson, who’s basically Hayes++, got traded for literally nothing, Hayes value bottomed out. We’re honestly we got anything out of the cap dump.

It is what it is. Hopefully we can use that cap space to take on some bad contracts for more assets. 3.5 mil is not nothing

  9. We got half of Hayes salary off the books and we didn’t have to pay to do it

The only reason why we would need 3.5 mil in the next three years is if we’re competing for a cup and salary cap strapped, which we would not be if we had Hayes and his 7 mil figure

I loved Hayes personality. We overpaid when we got him. This was always going to happen

  10. This was not a good trade, if we eating 50% of his contract we should have forced him to stay to see if he could produce to get more in season.

  11. Well we didn’t have to send picks away to dump some cap so it’s still better than what the last moron could accomplish

  12. Fair enough. But the Provorov return was way better than expected so it’s balanced out somewhat for me. Especially if he brings back another 1st in the Sanheim deal. Or brings in another bad contract for another high pick.

  13. It’s hard to send a guy 50% retained who can still play and used to ref.

    That’s a multi talent for a 6th

  14. The fact that they “had” to move a player at a loss because of Torts is exactly why he should be fired.
