  1. We weren’t keeping him. He was on the down swing the past few seasons combined with injuries. Solid gamble for the Sharks though

  2. Not too long ago we were debating who would be the better goaltender between Igor and Blackwood over the next decade.

Man, injuries can just absolutely derail a goalies a promising long
    career like nothing.

  3. I’m going to miss the “I know Mac allowed 16 goals in the first 6 minutes but he’s been locked down since and kept us in the game. Plus all those goals were on the defense.” Comments on the sub

  4. He had like 10 second chances, and blew all of them.

Wish him all the best in the future, he could be great if he found consistency.

  5. I take it this means Fitz is close to bringing another goalie in, at least based on his previous remarks re Schmid, Daws

  6. Hopefully a change of scenery does him good. Expectations will be much lower on a rebuilding Sharks team, so maybe he can mentally get back to the Blackwood we used to see early in his career.

  7. Take care Blacky. For a while, I thought he might be our goalie of the future. But hockey’s an unpredictable animal.

  8. After seeing Adin Hill follow Miikka Kiprusoff’s footsteps of going from San Jose 3rd stringer to Cup Final, Fitzy will reacquire Mack sometime in the next year or so and ride the Blackwood Express all the way to glory. 5D chess, motherfuckers!

  9. At a $3.3 million qualifying offers, there’s no way the Devils would’ve taken him. Good on getting another pick out of it.

  10. 6th round pick? surprised we were able to trade blackwood for a future superstar, great deal

  11. He was often very good when healthy, which was about as often as snow in San Jose.

  12. I genuinely hope he succeeds in a new market. Sometimes a guy just needs a change of scenery and it’s the best for both parties just to move on.

  13. As a Blackwood Truther I’ll both pour one out for the homie but also admit that he had his chances to regain his form from earlier in his career and just couldn’t maintain the consistency (or health) to stick around.

I’ll still be rooting for him to do well though and hopefully a change of scenery will eventually help him find his game again.

  14. Good luck Blacky. We wanted to love ya, but you never really reached your potential. The vaccine hiccup didn’t help either.

  15. Highlight of his career with us had to be that last minute toe save on the goal line against Boston right? What could have been.

  16. Farewell Mackenzie. I will remember the time I envisioned you as the goalie of our future fondly.

  17. Calling it right now. Blacky will absolutely stone us cold when we next play the Sharks. It always seems to happen. Whether he finds amazing success or is just mediocre the rest of the season, the game he plays against us will be Vezina level.

  18. If we don’t get another backup and Schmid or VV get hurt I’m jumping off prudential

  19. I hope the injuries are behind him and that he does well with the Sharks organization.

With that said, I doubt they are and I personally could never feel comfortable again with him as one of our top two goaltenders.

With that said, I also don’t feel comfortable with Vanacek as our top goaltender if we want to actually challenge for the Cup.

  20. For only a 6th round pick, we should have kept him. He can still 1A and 1B with vitek.

  21. I’ll NEVER understand why Lindy started him against Boston late in the season when we were fighting for the division.

  22. What are the chances who we select with this pick in the 6th round ever makes the first team?

  23. Anyone who doesn’t think his problems were caused by injuries doesn’t know what they’re talking about. That said, there comes a point in time when you have to move on from a guy who can’t stay healthy. This was that time.

  24. Will always remember his shutout against Boston with the last second save on Pasta.
