Happy we got someone in a positional need and that was ranked higher (as high as 32nd) .. was there any indication why he fell to us?

Call it wishful thinking but I got a good feeling about this guy much like I do about D-Petey from last year. Imagine us striking gold on the blue line with back to back 3rd rounders.
Skating is very good. He’s so patient with the puck. He doesn’t have tunnel vision and a lot of people mention his 1st pass is quality.
“Sometimes he reminds me of Ray Bourque without the shot” says someone (obviously very knowledgeable) in the comments of that YouTube video.
Wow I really like his game. Gets pucks to the net, good passer, vision looks good, also looks better defensively than I thought he would be. Not a small kid either, I’m pretty excited about this pick

Seems like Alvin has a clear type. Shifty skating defensemen that are effectively ex-forwards that move similar to Hughes. Look at how Hronek, Willander, Brzutewicz are all very similar 6ft players. Clearly all mobile, which trends towards a team keen to build around puck control. That connection is ‘good’ but eventually this team has to get some effing size. Thank god we didn’t draft Benson. We just can’t take on another short guy. Let alone to continually play without good D in the NHL AND farm club. I’d say quite positive 1st an 3rd rounders, but the buck has to shift now.
