  1. I bet there’s lots of chatter about a lot of things at the draft. Situations like these I’m so much happier just checking the news tomorrow.

  2. I’m still not sold Debrincat is a great long term fit for the Wings, but no doubt he makes us better right now. If it’s a cheap trade no reason not to do it.

  3. Yeaaa, you ever watch the old Charlie Brown cartoons, or read the comic?

Starting to feel a little like Charlie Brown trying to kick the damn football, and Lucy pulling it away.

  4. I just hope this “chatter” is among the GMs in the building and not the other attendees

  5. So this is what it looks like. Yzerman wants to talk contract, Ottawa says not until you make a better offer. Yzerman says nevermind. Ottawa is now in the position where they have to scramble and take the second rounder(s) now or maybe get something at the deadline. If this is really how it’s playing out, Yzerman is the man and we’ll get our guy for far less than we thought. We could be watching Ottawa walk itself into an Yzerfleece as we speak, ironically by trying too hard to not walk into one. Or nothing happens

  6. The deal is on the precipice of completion I can feel it in my bones the cat will be ours

  7. So if the Senators don’t deal him now, they are stuck with his qualifying offer of $9 million for one year, they can also go to arbitration and knock 15% off, maybe? They can deal him at the trade deadline or ride him out if they are on fire. But that is it, he walks and signs long term next summer?

I don’t see Ottawa challenging for the Cup this year and that’s huge money they are spending.

  8. At this point, really no idea. But I will say I think Steve’s “still rebuilding, need to draft” comment was his own instance of negotiating through the media. Cannot look desperate for a piece, ever. Need to show you’re perfectly fine moving on without that player, and will only make the deal if the price makes sense.
