Waiting on those Jarmo moves

  1. Why overpay for FA when we need to trade players off anyway. No rush, get best deals and save some cap space rather than fighting for a weak FA market

  2. Not sure there are FA’s that move the needle for us that wouldn’t mean a massive overpay, or too long of term. Duchene was probably the best bet on getting center depth now in a reasonable contract, but he’s already been signed

  3. Don’t expect much. I think they’re bought into the youth (coming up this season) and the draft they literally just had + the trades they made already.

And to the points above, they’ll go for great value deals after the temperature cools off in the FA pool.

  4. If you get your work done in advance, there isn’t much left to do. We really didnt expect an active FA day.

  5. I think they only have like $4.7 million in cap space. Other than Duchene it’s a pretty underwhelming free agent class too.

  6. Honestly I’m fine with it, I would’ve liked to bring in Duchene (especially on the deal he signed with Dallas) but other than that a lot of the guys I would’ve maybe looked at got massive overpayments or too much term. I’m thinking Jarmo will try to swing another trade to address center in the short term, but other than that I don’t know that there’s much else for him to do. I would like to see KJ and Marchenko extensions sooner rather than later, but they don’t necessarily need to get done anytime soon. The big thing was getting Fantilli signed and we got that done.

  7. They signed a 1C today, don’t need any other big signings. Imagine within the next week we’ll see a package of players/picks for a bridge 1C/2C and to clear some cap space.

  8. You’ll be waiting a long time. They’ve currently got Gaudreau, Laine, Jenner, Fantilli, Johnson, Marchenko, Sillinger, Kuraly, Texier, Roslovic, Bemstrom, Foudy, Olivier, Voronkov, Danforth, Robinson, and Chinakhov to consider for forwards.

They’ve got Werenski, Severson, Provorov, Peeke, Bean, Boqvist, Gudbranson, Blankenburg, and Jiricek for defensemen.

They’ll have to trade, buy out, or send 5 of these guys to the minors. Every roster player they acquire from here to the start of the season increases that number.

  9. We traded for a whole new second defensive pair and signed a future 1C, who is probably a current 2C.

What else is there to realistically do?

    Gaudreau-Jenner-Laine

    Johnson-Fantilli-Marchenko

    Texier-Sillinger-Chinakhov/Roslovic

    Robinson-Kuraly-Olivier/Danforth

    Werenski-Jiricek/Boqvist

    Provorov-Severson

    Bean-Gudbranson

    Elvis

    Tarasov

We need to trade some deadweight, maybe through that we bring in someone, but I don’t see us doing anything in FA.

  10. This is a pretty weak UFA class. Not sure it’s worth blowing our wad this year on anyone

  11. If we could sign anyone, I’d want Bergeron on a 1-2 year deal but that’s like a .0001% chance. Otherwise maybe a backup goalie as a buffer but other than that, not much to do at this point. I’d welcome a KJ or Marchenko 8 year extension though

  12. Im pumped for the non moves. We have a loaded prospect pool why sign another teams trash at the potential expense of our treasure?

  13. Our offseason so far

    Texier
    Severson
    Prov
    Fantelli

Imagine there will be a trade or some type of movement but so far a great off-season.

  14. I’m of the opinion we don’t really need to do anything, if not much in free agency. But it sure is boring sitting around as free agency starts knowing that the team isn’t likely to do much during FA.
